Monash Health provides health care across south eastern Melbourne, uniquely integrating in one organisation primary, secondary and tertiary health services, as well as world renowned research and teaching facilities. Monash Health has a role in specialist care for greater Melbourne, regional Victoria and interstate.
Monash Women's maternity service is the largest maternity provider in Victoria providing care to over 9,000 women each year across three hospitals: Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong and Casey. Monash Women's provides maternity care for well women as well as women with more complex and specialty needs. Monash Medical Centre provides tertiary level maternity care, pregnancy assessment unit, fetal diagnostic unit and has both adult and neonatal intensive care units situated on-site. This integrated service structure provides one of Australia’s safest levels of maternity care.
We are now looking to employ an experienced Midwife who has a strong commitment to exceptional and outstanding care for women and babies.
About the role
Working closely with the Medical Team Leader – Opal, you will jointly lead the Opal Maternity Team providing care to close to 1000 women per annum. The Opal Team primarily specialises in care of women with diabetes. Your portfolio area of 52 Maternity is an integrated maternity ward, comprised of 44 beds, providing excellent care for antenatal and postnatal women at MMC. The 52 Maternity portfolio is shared with the Midwifery Unit Manager - Maternity Team Leader (Amethyst Team)
Specifically, we’ll look to you to:
Coordinate the weekly Opal Team pregnancy clinics;
Actively contribute to the establishment and development of a team culture that supports and enables us to achieve our vision of “exceptional care, outstanding outcomes”;
Set appropriate directions to enable the efficient achievement of agreed service targets, while optimising the woman’s experience;
Partner with other Maternity Team Leaders to develop and implement financial strategies to ensure that the unit delivers on the relevant financial KPIs;
Consistently role model and communicate both clinical and behavioural expectations clearly to your team;
Contribute to the attainment and sharing of professional clinical expertise through networking with colleagues both locally and further afield; and
Lead by example, to be an excellent role model and inspire your staff to perform at their best.
What you can bring to us
Your midwifery career has already provided you with the chance to demonstrate:
Current effective leadership and management experience in a maternity setting;
Proven ability to deliver successful outcomes in the areas of service delivery, resource management, professional and technical competence;
Strong capability to multi-task, covering both daily operational activities as well as project initiatives;
Outstanding organisational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills;
A willingness to lead change initiatives that will optimise performance;
A high level of comfort using a range of IT systems; and
Superior communication, influencing and interpersonal skills.

Current AHPRA registration is a mandatory requirement for this role. Postgraduate qualifications in management or leadership (or equivalent) (or working towards) will be highly regarded.

A minimum of five years midwifery practice post registration
Previous and recent midwifery management experience
Easily identified as a role model of clinical excellence in midwifery care
Cognisance of midwifery sphere of practice (midwives code of practice) and of other professional standards as set by the Australian Nursing & Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) and Australian College of Midwives (ACM)
Post- graduate studies in management or leadership
Member of ACM or other midwifery professional association
Experience with coordinating large pregnancy care clinics and use of iPM
