About the Opportunity
South Western Sydney Local Health District, is actively seeking a dedicated Clinical Nurse Consultant with a strong passion for research and clinical leadership in the field of District wide Trauma Coordination.

The successful applicant will bring experience in Trauma, Critical Care, and Surgical Specialties, enabling them to collaborate effectively with the SWSLHD Facilities and Services emergency, surgery and intensive care units, Liverpool Hospital Trauma and Acute Surgery Service, and SWSLHD Clinical Streams.

The primary focus of this role is to provide clinical leadership in trauma care across the SWSLHD trauma referral networks, providing a coordinated approach to care across multiple sites and services.

This role also entails coordinating and leading quality improvement initiatives and standardising education and training activities within the multidisciplinary teams across the district.

What You'll be Doing
The Surgical Specialties Clinical Stream is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse with an interest in Trauma to support Trauma Services across all facilities in SWSLHD. The SWSLHD Trauma CNC provides clinical expertise and advice for trauma patients across the district. The SWSLHD Trauma CNC monitors trauma transfers between SWSLHD hospitals via the trauma hotline and provides timely feedback to the referring hospitals where required. The trauma CNC is responsible for the planning development and implementation of education programs for the care of trauma patients in SWSLHD facilities. The Trauma CNC will initiate research and utilise their findings to ensure evidence-based care for the management of the injured patients.

The Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) is an expert practitioner who, through leadership facilitates evidence based practice. The CNC will promote a service which fosters clinical excellence, research and professional leadership. The CNC contributes to quality health care by collaborating with the health care providers and consumer groups, developing clinical practice standards and evaluating their outcomes. The CNC is responsible for providing services which facilitate effective management of the care in the given specialty.

How to Apply

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and at least 7 years full time equivalent post registration experience and at least 5 years full time equivalent post registration experience in a relevant field of practice relevant to the specialty. Approved post graduate nursing qualifications in a field relevant to the specialty field or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the organisation.
  2. Demonstrated evidence of strategies used to maintain current knowledge of clinical practice advances and research in the relevant specialty.
  3. Demonstrated ability to apply expert knowledge to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive.
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and engage with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary health care team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to interact with others in a personable and professional manner and personally resolve conflicts when they arise.
  6. Demonstrated evidence of the use of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidenced based nursing care.
  7. Demonstrated understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace.
  8. Must possess a valid Australian Drivers Licence (excluding learner driver's licences). If not already in possession, a NSW Drivers Licence must be obtained within 3 months of appointment.
