What you'll be doing
The Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 (CNS 2) is a Registered Nurse who applies a high level of clinical nursing knowledge, experience and skills in providing complex nursing care directed towards a specific area of practice, a defined population or defined service area, with minimum direct supervision.
The CNS 2 is responsible for the provision of high quality, professional nursing care that is underpinned by compassion and consistent with NSW Health and ISLHD values, policies and standards.

The CNS 2 is required to work to their scope of practice and retains the responsibility and accountability for their personal and professional actions.

All staff are expected to act as an appropriate and effective role model, promoting a culture that supports practices that reflect the NSW Health CORE values of Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment through demonstrated behaviours and interactions with patients, clients and employees.

The CNS 2 Palliative Care will work within the ISLHD Community Palliative Care Service to provide patient centred palliative care for people with advanced life limiting illnesses, their families and carers. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the role provides direct care to clients and their caregivers in the home environment and works with primary care, community based services, other specialist services or clinicians, aged care facilities and group homes. The role requires a commitment to palliative care and the ability to work independently in the community with guidance and support from senior palliative care clinician’s and pr oviding effective leadership, supervision and clinical support to junior clinicians or community health nurses. Responsibilities include palliative care triage, assessment, symptom management and ongoing care planning and nursing care .


All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current registration with the Australia Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse. A current NSW drivers licence class C and willingness to travel according to the job demands of the role.
  2. Relevant post-registration qualification and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate.
  3. Exercises extended autonomy of decision making, professional knowledge and judgment in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills.
  4. Demonstrates a high level of confidence and clinical proficiency in carrying out a range of procedures, treatments and interventions that are evidenced based and are within scope of clinical practice guidelines and ability.
  5. Demonstrated experience in leading and initiating activities to improve clinical service delivery and patient clinical outcomes.
  6. Actively participate in the support, teaching, coaching and development of others.
  7. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and work in an interdisciplinary team.
  8. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a time efficient manner.
