POSITION OVERVIEW

Applications are sought for the 2025 Intern Training Program commencing January 2025 (Orientation - with the

2025 clinical year commencing 3 February 2025).

Canberra Health Services recruits Interns to the ACT Network, which includes North Canberra Hospital, Goulburn Base Hospital and Bega South-East Regional Hospital.

Canberra Hospital, North Canberra Hospital, Goulburn Base Hospital, Bega South-East Regional Hospital, ACT Pathology, Mental Health ACT, Capital Regional Cancer Service, Rehabilitation and Aged Care Services and Obstetrics and Gynaecology are teaching facilities of the Australian National University Medical School and the ANU Rural Clinical School. Canberra is also the home of many leading research organisations.

Positions are available for Postgraduate Year 1 (Interns/PGY1s). Applicants must be eligible for provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA). Appointments will be on a 2-year contract.

DUTIES

Under direction of the clinical supervisor, you will perform medical care for your patients. You will:

  1. Provide day-to-day medical care for patients of Canberra Health Services (or secondment location) at a level commensurate with the level of clinical experience and under the supervision and direction of more senior medical staff.
  2. Undertake appropriate progression toward more independent medical practice with concomitant development of clinical knowledge, skills and behaviours required for safe medical practice.
  3. Attendance at scheduled JMO teaching sessions and contribute to the education of medical students and other health care staff.
  4. Contribute to clinical audit and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.
  5. Maintain adequate medical records with legible entries, and complete discharge summaries on time.
  6. Participate in the after-hours roster as required and in accordance with current safe working hour’s provisions.
  7. Work within and support the multidisciplinary clinical team.
  8. Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • An Australian MBBS medical degree, or equivalent
  • Be eligible for provisional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Achieve Basic Life Support skills as a minimum, and to maintain those skills.

Please note prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

  • Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening & vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases
  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

International Students must be able to meet the AHPRA English language continuous education requirements OR provide a current IELTs certificate as part of your application, dated not before July 2023.
