Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Emergency, Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD.

Applicants should be a Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Specialist (State) Award.

Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 300,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle.

This position is an excellent opportunity for newly qualified FACEMs or those looking for a sea change to work in a busy mixed ED setting. The Temporary position is to backfill predicted Long Service and Maternity leave in the coming year. With a continually increasing workload there will be possibility to progress from Temporary to permanent contracts in the future. Gosford Hospital Emergency Department sees between 75-80,000 patients per annum and continues to grow. As a regional trauma center seeing both adult and paediatric patients, the clinical work is varied and encompasses all aspects of contemporary emergency medicine. The successful candidate will be joining a large and dedicated group of Staff Specialists who work within the department. FACEM coverage on the floor is made up of at least 3 and up to 9 FACEMs at anyone time dependent on shift crossovers. With multiple FACEMs on the floor at all times it provides the perfect environment for continued peer learning and collaboration to help professional development of all FACEMs, new and old alike. In undertaking a Staff Specialist role the successful applicant will also have access to appropriate Clinical Support time to undertake appropriate non-clinical duties and further their development and personal goals in this important area of working as an Emergency Physician.

  1. Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number.
  2. Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine and / or other equivalent specialist recognition. Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within threemonths may be considered. If successful the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
  3. Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Emergency Medicine.
  4. Ability to work constructively and effectively in a Multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
  5. Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead and supervise medical and surgical trainees, residents and medical students; Previous experience in teaching the management of the deteriorating patient would be advantageous.
  6. Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW CORE Values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
