Where you'll be working
Most of the work is done in the Dental and Maxillofacial Clinic in Prince of Wales Hospital. Some dental assisting is also needed in Operating Theatres.
The Clinic is small and the staff are friendly and helpful. Someone is always available to assist if needed.
What you'll be doing

Provide clinical support and assist with the efficient delivery of a high quality oral Health service to eligible clients in Prince of Wales and Sydney Children Hospitals.
Undertake dental assistant duties as required to maintain services.
Comply with NSW Health Infection Control Policies and Australian Standards and Guidelines for Infection Control within a dental setting including requirements of documentation relating to Infection Control procedures.
Follow manufacturer’s instructions and Safe Work Practices in the operation and maintenance of all dental equipment including requirements of documentation relating to maintenance of equipment.
Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of clinical areas, sterilisation rooms and laboratories.
Prepare the dental surgery for oral health care procedures for each client.
Assist the dental operator during oral procedures.
Maintain and store all dental instruments, materials and medicaments as per manufacturer’s instructions and infection control policies.
Provide basic oral hygiene instruction and post treatment care to clients following advice from dental operator.
Assist with administration in the dental setting including:registration of clients;providing clients with information on dental services;creation, storage and disposal of records in accordance with the State Records Act;filing of records;general reception duties.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.
- Successful completion of a nationally recognised Dental Assisting Certificate course at Certificate Level III at least.
- Experience as a Dental Assistant in public oral health.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current infection control principles and practices.
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters, commensurate with years of experience.
- Demonstratedhigh-level interpersonal, written and oral communication skills..
- Demonstrated computer skills.
