Social Worker

Responsible for promoting and supporting high standards of ethical practice though mentorship, consultation, critical reflection on practice and practice support to Practice Leaders.

You may have heard that the Department of Communities Tasmania will be disbanded by 30 September 2022. Please be assured that the services that Communities Tasmania provides to the Tasmanian public will be ongoing and dispersed between existing Tasmanian Government agencies and a new Housing Tasmania statutory authority. Any advertised roles and contracts will be honoured in line with current Tasmanian State Service legislation.

This position, currently with Communities Tasmania, will be transferred to the new Department of Education, Children and Young People, as part of the transition of services

Conditions of Employment:

  • Salary: $111,672 to $118,949 pro rata per annum + 10.5% Superannuation
  • Classification: AHP Level 4
  • Award/Agreement: Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Union Wages Agreement
  • Location: North
  • Hours of Work: Permanent full time day work starting ASAP (part-time hours may be considered by negotiation)
  • Please note: Other permanent and fixed-term full time and part-time vacancies that may arise in the future may also be filled from this process.

About the Team

Children, Youth and Families (CYF) provides integrated programs that support all children, young people, and their families in Tasmania. The Child Safety Service (CSS) is integral to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people who are at risk or in crisis, in Tasmania.

The Practice Manager provides day to day leadership and management of all practice within CSS; responsible for promoting and supporting high standards of ethical practice though mentorship, consultation, critical reflection on practice and practice support, to Practice Leaders.

About You

In addition to meeting the essential requirements, to succeed long term in this role you should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Genuine motivation and interest in working within Child Safety Service
  • Experience in the delivery and management of complex human/family services in the field of child safety
  • High level assessment, analytical and conceptual skills
  • Knowledge and experience in the provision of professional supervision, mentorship, clinical support, and performance development for staff
  • Demonstrated ability in operational planning and implementation of change and reform programs, to build an integrated child safety system
  • Highly develop communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills with a range of clients
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative stakeholder networks to achieve common objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake research, develop and evaluate plans and outcomes for management of service including financial, human, and physical resources

Duties Include:

  • Provide professional guidance, leadership, supervision, and direction to Practice Leaders, and where required Child Safety Officers, and facilitate a reflective learning culture within the service.
  • Role model leadership and practice in everyday operations consistent with the Signs of Safety Practice Principles, CYF organisational values and within the Child Safety Practice Framework.
  • Proactively enable a multiagency, multidisciplinary, and culturally responsive approach to achieving best outcomes for children, young people, parents, and carers by fostering relationships with senior clinicians and practitioners across key service partners and cultural communities.

Essential Requirements:

  • Satisfactory completion of an appropriate course of study at a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (Employment type)

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

    • b) sex related offences
    • c) serious drug offences
    • d) crimes involving dishonesty
    • e) serious traffic offences

  • COVID-19 Vaccination 14/12/21: As a result of a risk assessment process the Head of Agency considered where vaccination is a necessary control to protect the health and safety of workers and the communityand therefore it has been determined that prior to appointment to these duties a person to is to provide evidence that they are vaccinated against the disease known as COVID-19.

Desirable Requirements: Current Drivers Licence; A relevant tertiary qualification supported by substantial experience.
