POSITION OVERVIEW

Canberra Health Services (CHS) is focussed on the delivery of high quality, effective, person-centred care. It provides acute, sub-acute, primary, and community‚Äźbased health services, to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and surrounding region. Ward 4B is a busy 20 bed ward which accommodates both renal / medical inpatients, more dependent patients awaiting discharge and 10 discharge chairs for independent patients from many specialities across CHS. The ward offers inpatient care to patients admitted with renal dysfunction and multiple co-morbidities as well medical patients with complex conditions and associated complications. Ward 4B also ensures safe discharge of patients from within CHS to home or other facilities.

The Registered Nurse Level 2 is seen by the Organisation as a source of expert nursing knowledge, especially within the Renal nursing field, skills, and attributes.

The Registered Nurse Level 2 must demonstrate a higher level of skill and the ability to perform a more demanding role covering the domains: clinical care, leadership, education, safety, and communication.

DUTIES

Under limited direction of the Clinical Nurse Consultant, you will perform the role and responsibilities of a Registered Nurse to provide best quality care for renal and medical inpatients and those transferred into the Discharge Lounge. You will:

  1. Provide comprehensive client focused care to patients using evidence-based practice.
  2. Provide leadership and promote a commitment to high quality customer service principles, practices, and attributes.
  3. Provide Clinical Supervision and support junior nursing staff with the provision of direct care to patients with complex needs.
  4. Maintain individual professional development activities through formal and informal training, sharing acquired knowledge, supporting the development of others and contributing to learning.
  5. Review and evaluate models of care delivery and initiate appropriate change. Participate in the development of policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines relevant to the clinical area. Participate in the development of patient and staff education strategies.
  6. Contribute to communication processes which demonstrate a commitment to effectively deal with challenging behaviours and the resolution of conflict.
  7. Practices in a way that acknowledges the dignity, culture, values, beliefs and rights of individuals and/or groups. Promotes high quality customer service, adhering to relevant standards, policy and legislation.

  1. ADMIN: Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

CLINICAL: Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high quality patient care.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:


Prior to commencement successful candidates will be required to:

  • Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • Obtain a Compliance Certificate from OMU (Occupational Medicine Unit) relating to assessment, screening, and vaccination processes against specified infectious diseases.

  • Provide current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Note: This is a temporary position available for six months with the possibility of extension.

WHAT YOU REQUIRE

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience:

  1. Proven experience in utilising the nursing process to provide quality client focused care in Medical Patients integrating clinical expertise and evidence-based research.
  2. Effective leadership and the ability to work collaboratively and in consultation with the multidisciplinary team to achieve planned clinical outcomes. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills including the capacity for clear and appropriate communication (oral, non-verbal, and written) with key stakeholders in a diverse range of situations.
  3. Proven commitment to an individual professional development plan; active contribution to and participation in education and training; facilitate competency-based education for new and less experienced staff members.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to participating in and development of policy and procedure, quality and improvement, unit education activities and research.
  5. Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Displays behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful, and kind.
