We are seeking one or more full time permanent Anatomical Pathologists to join our Anatomic Pathology team based at Mt Wellington, Auckland, New Zealand, with start date to be negotiated. This is an opportunity to work with NZ’s largest, highly specialised, community anatomic laboratory service serving the family physicians and specialists working in private practice in the greater Auckland region.

In this role, you will be working up to 40 hours per week. However, the actual hours of work will be negotiated with the Clinical Lead during the interview stage. You will also work on-call and rostered hours to meet the requirements of the service when needed. APS receives a large volume of skin, gastrointestinal, breast, genitourinary and other cases. Lower volume, high complexity cases such as brain biopsies are also received. Urologic, lymphoma and breast pathology interest would be an advantage. This role does not involve autopsies.

Salary is negotiable, with primary reference to established baselines, but then subject adjustment based on applicant skills and departmental needs.

We are part ofTe Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, the overarching organisation for the public component of New Zealand’s health service. Te Whatu Ora operates the public component of the country’s health system, with functions delivered at local, district, regional and nationallevels.

We are the regional community laboratory specifically operated by Te Toka Tumai / Auckland City Hospital. We provide anatomical pathology services for approximately 30% of the population when they seek care from their general practitioners or specialists in private surgical practice. (Patients attending the public hospitals obtain their anatomical pathology from the three public hospital laboratories, also operated by Health New Zealand).

About the department

Our Anatomic Pathology Service (APS) in Mt Wellington provides services to approximately 600 private specialists and 2,000 general practitioners with up to 450 histology cases per day, and a further 15-20 non-gynaecological cytology cases. The cases cover a wide range of subspecialties including dermatologic, gastroenterological, gynaecological, breast, head and neck, respiratory and urological pathology. This service also provides the cervical screening programmefor the northern third of the country- currently transitioning to HPV primary screening.
