What you'll be doing:
An exciting opportunity is now available for an Occupational Therapist to join the Mental Health Team, located at Katoomba Community Health Centre in a permanent full time role.

The role of the occupational therapist is to deliver recovery-oriented occupational therapy services to consumers and their families as part of an integrated adult (18-65 years) community mental health service.

Within this imperative role you will provide specialist occupational therapy assessment, recovery focused and evidence-based individual and group interventions to promote occupational participation and provide care coordination or to contribute in a variety of other ways to the overall functioning of the mental health service as required.
At all times you will positively and proactively contribute to strengthening partnerships between the mental health service and other service partners both internal and external to the district.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form - IM011 form).

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection criteria to be addressed:

  1. Current registration to practice as an Occupational Therapist with the with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  2. Demonstrated capabilities for recovery-oriented mental health care and a commitment to the development of recovery-oriented approaches to occupational therapy in mental health.
  3. Experience in designing and implementing client centred rehabilitation plans, managing complex client care, and participating in discharge planning processes.
  4. Demonstrated ability to collaborate meaningfully with consumers and carers with a commitment and understanding of recovery principles in mental health service provision.
  5. Demonstrated working knowledge of NSW Mental Health Act, 2007.
  6. Demonstrated skills in verbal communication with consumers, teams, and agencies, with experience in clinical documentation and formal reporting.
  7. Demonstrated experience in the use of relevant evidence-based practice resources to guide decision making and commitment to quality improvement.
  8. Current driver's licence and willingness to use for work travel purposes
