Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Nepean Hospital within the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.

Successful applicants will be a suitably qualified Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. The applicant will be working in a busy clinical service and research orientated Department. The applicant should be accredited and skilled in Endoscopy and Colonoscopy Procedures. It would be desirable if the applicant has further training and interest in liver disorders and liver cancer. The applicant should have an interest in supervision of Junior Doctors working in our Department.

The position is a 0.6FTE. The successful applicant will participate in the Department On-Call Roster. The working roster/sessions will be at the direction of the Head of Department. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District.

Selection Criteria

1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

2. Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997 and the Staff Specialists (NSW) Award. Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position

3. Sound clinical knowledge in the practice of Gastroenterology & Hepatology and endoscopic procedures demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty.

4. Thorough working knowledge of Liver disorders including Liver Cancer.

5. High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and junior medical staff supervision consistent with contemporary best practice supervision standards.

7. Demonstrates the skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling of a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.

8. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied, or clinical research as required within the Department.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Health Services Act 1997, and the Staff Specialists (State) Award
