About the Hospital:

North Canberra Hospital (formerly Calvary Public Hospital Bruce) and Clare Holland House are now run and operated by Canberra Health Services (CHS)

This is a significant milestone as the ACT Government moves towards delivering a new billion-dollar hospital on Canberra’s Northside.

The current North Canberra Hospital is a level 4 hospital that provides a range of acute and sub-acute services including community based care to the residents of the northside of Canberra and Southern NSW. North Canberra Hospital (NCH) is a 270 public hospital located in Canberra’s expanding northside. North Canberra Hospital operates a 24 hour Emergency Department. Inpatient services include general medicine, surgery, maternity, mental health and critical care.

Other service modalities include day surgery, specialist outpatient clinics, Hospital in the Home and the Geriatric Rapid Acute Care Evaluation service that reaches into aged care facilities across the ACT.

The new Northside Hospital will be built on the existing Calvary Hospital campus in Bruce. It will be a modern, state-of-the-art hospital for patients, visitors and its workforce and will provide more beds and increased services. Until then, it's business as usual at the NCH, and we'll keep providing high-quality care to our patients and community.



About the role:

The Registered Nurse Level 2, in this role will provide complex clinical care to patients with a variety of medical conditions across the lifespan. This includes working independently providing clinical care to patients in their home, conducting advanced clinical assessments of patients, applying critical thinking skills, supporting, and providing guidance to junior nursing staff, troubleshooting, and coordinating complex care needs of patients within the service. Escalating concerns to medical staff as needed. Nursing staff work as part of a comprehensive Multidisciplinary Team.

The service requires driving to the patient’s home to deliver clinical care. This role also includes ward rounds to promote and initiate patient referrals to the HITH service. The hours of work are normal shift work pattern, morning, and evening shifts seven days a week. After orientation and training being “On Call” will be a job requirement.

Under limited direction of the Clinical Nurse Consultant you will:

Provide client focused holistic care to NCH patients referred to the HITH service, using innovative, evidence-based nursing practice.

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for clients, including patient education on complex health needs. Work collaboratively with other members of the Multidisciplinary Team to achieve planned clinical patient outcomes.

Provide education to patients, their families and other NCH staff on all aspects of the HITH service, participate in, contribute to, and deliver professional development programs.

Provide leadership and supervision to new and less experienced staff as well as nursing students.

Actively participate in and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement, policy development and clinical research that is evidence based in accordance with the CHS Quality and Clinical Governance Framework

Actively participate in the Performance Management process.

Communicate effectively and appropriately (orally, non-verbally and in writing) in a diverse range of situations, using consistent and transparent processes

Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.



About you:

Requirements/Qualifications:
Mandatory

Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Have minimum of 4 years relevant clinical nursing experience in acute medical and/or surgical nursing care of patients in an inpatient, ambulatory or community setting

Have a current, unrestricted driver’s licence

The successful applicant will be required to work a combination of morning, evening and weekend shifts

CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
