War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24-hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 7 day a week day centre, 24 hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. The Clinical Nurse Educator position (CNE) sits within the Nurse Leadership team of the in-patient unit at WMH. This exciting opportunity and dynamic position is integral to fostering a culture of continuous education and learning across all levels of nursing, in a multidisciplinary environment, ultimately enhancing the quality care provided on the 35 bed inpatient unit.

The CNE works closely with and is well supported by the Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultant & Clinical Care Co-ordinator positions. The CNE plays an active part in evolving and applying a specialist model of nursing care within the aged rehabilitation arena. The CNE represents on various hospital senior clinical and governance committees. This role is also responsible for the oversight of the hospital education calendar, ensuring a rewarding interface across the MDT and hospital campus. The successful applicant will be required to maintain a high level of communication internally with staff, patients, and carers as well as external to the organisation inclusive of SESLHD networks and Uniting.

The CNE is specifically allocated 32 hours per week with the remaining 8 hours per week dedicated to the planning and delivery of the practical component of WMH’s manual handling programme, under the direction of the Work Health Safety & Injury Management Co-ordinator.

This position is full time permanent role across Monday-Friday. Uniting is a not-for-profit organisation with competitive salary packaging.

Selection Criteria:

1. Current registration as an RN with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with minimum 2 years post registration experience in a relevant specialty area e.g. aged care, rehabilitation

2. Holds a relevant approved post graduate qualification in education or working towards same or holds Certificate 4 in Training & Assessment or demonstrated commitment to attaining same

3. Effective clinical leadership abilities, including highly developed communication skills (written, verbal, electronic) and demonstrated understanding of healthy team dynamics

4. Demonstrated understanding and experience in the application of the principles of adult learning, competency assessment and attainment through clinical teaching

5. Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration to achieve quality patient outcomes and identify education opportunities

6. Advanced computer literacy including demonstrated ability with MS Office Suite and understanding of hospital information systems

7. Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare accreditation processes inclusive of National Standards and WHS Profiling requirements

8. Understanding of Manual Handling principles and skills

All NSW Health workers are required to have received at least three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine AND an Influenza vaccine by 1st June 2023 or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 and Influenza vaccination status at interview.
