About the Opportunity
An exciting role for sonographer of varied experience levels to work in the largest hospital in NSW with a closely-knit team and a multi-disciplinary advancing of knowledge approach.

Liverpool Hospital is the largest hospital in NSW and is a multidisciplinary tertiary hospital, servicing the south-western suburbs of Sydney delivering high levels of patient care.

This role provides an opportunity for a novice sonographer to widen their knowledge with a supportive team and for a proficient sonographer to apply their skills with a team that is proud of keeping abreast with the updates in the areas of improvement. With the redevelopment of the hospital, there will be many further opportunities within the role for skill expansion. There is an in-house dedicated education roster, subject to staffing availabilities, providing opportunities to present and learn from various presentations, lectures and scanning workshops from sonographers, radiologists and multi-disciplinary teams. Support in course or conference attendance is provided wherever appropriate.

You will be working with a team of nine other qualified sonographers and in liaison with radiology registrars and consultants, to provide high level ultrasound service in accordance with shift requirements and on call basis. We have ongoing trainee sonographer program whose supervision you can be a part of. The role provides an opportunity to scan a varied range of interesting examinations with predominance of:

  • Abdominal scans and HCC surveillances
  • Gynecological scans on routine and emergency basis
  • Pediatric ultrasound
  • Small parts, some MSK
  • Regular neonatal intensive care unit scanning
  • Obstetric scans
  • Rotation in fetomaternal unit for upskilling of skills and added job satisfaction
  • Rotation in general radiography to address injury management as appropriate

What You'll be Doing
The position is responsible for providing comprehensive tertiary and quaternary level specialist vascular ultrasound service, ensuring high quality of patient care. The position works within a multi-disciplinary team to provide accurate and high quality diagnostic ultrasound services at Liverpool Hospital.

Where You'll Be Working
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.

The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.

Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.

Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the University of NSW and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.

Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.


How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible.

  1. Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science, Science, Applied Science, or relevant health qualification Post Graduate Qualification in Sonography recognized by ASAR
  2. Current Medical Radiation Practitioner with current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  3. Valid NSW EPA Radiation Licence and ASAR Accreditation.
  4. Extensive experience in ultrasound at a tertiary level.
  5. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  7. Experience in teaching and research.
