New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form - IM011 form).

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection Criteria to be Addressed:

  1. Current registration to practice as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  2. Post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years full time equivalent experience working in the clinical area of Drug & Alcohol Speciality, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
  3. Evidence of clinical experience and skills in providing complex care specific to those with substance withdrawal and related concerns.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to effectively communicate and engage with patients/carers and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to identify and ensure responsiveness of care needs.
  5. Demonstrated problem solving and evidence of critical thinking as it relates to the delivery of advanced evidence based nursing.
  6. Demonstrated understanding and evidence of Quality improvement process within a speciality area and provision of person-centred care including withdrawal management and comprehensive drug & alcohol assessment.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to clinical practice development, use of information technology and own professional development.
