Clinical Nurse Consultant - Respiratory Medicine

  • We are seeking an independent and Clinical energetic Respiratory Clinical Nurse Consultant.
  • Thrive in a busy, dynamic department with a supportive and encouraging multidisciplinary team.
  • Fixed Term - Part Time Position , 16 hours per fortnight.

  • Join the Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Department of the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH)
  • Become part of a friendly, helpful, and skilled multi-disciplinary team
  • Join the respiratory outpatient team providing patient education and coordinating care/follow up for our patients

About the service:


The Department of Respiratory and Sleep Disorders provides general respiratory services to outpatients and inpatients including a high dependency/ non-invasive ventilatory support unit. Clinical services include:

Respiratory function Laboratory (including bronchial provocation, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and high altitude simulation test and home oxygen assessment service);

Fibreoptic bronchoscopy with facilities for endoscopic bronchial ultrasound biopsy (EBUS)

Pleural service

Overnight oximetry and sleep monitoring (home and hospital based)

The Respiratory and Sleep department also offers many public and privatised outpatient clinics such as;

  • General Respiratory
  • Lung oncology
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Interstitial Lung Disease
  • Advanced Lung Disease
  • Serve/Complex Asthma
  • Home Oxygen Review
  • Lung Nodule
  • Respiratory Rapid Access
  • Sleep Disorders
  • CPAP
  • Sleep ENT

Your success in this role, will be in your ability to

  • Contribute to a department culture that puts people first and leads with kindness to achieve excellence together
  • Support and guide patients through workup, diagnosis, treatment and symptom management of respiratory illness
  • Develop professional relationships with patients, carers and other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team through effective communication
  • Autonomously engaging with patients and team members
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Search for ways to continuously improve health care and the experience of patients.

Your Contribution

  • We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse with highly developed critical thinking skills
  • You will have excellent communication skills, enjoy taking on all challenges and love learning.
  • Experience in patient education and respiratory medicine preferred.
  • Current Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board is essential
  • Attendance atoutpatientRespiratory Clinic’s providing patient education on management of respiratory illness including inhaler techniques, and management action plans.
