An exciting opportunity is available for a senior clinician to join the team of innovative speech pathologists at Ryde Hospital. This temporary part time (0.71 FTE) maternity leave cover position will provide clinical leadership for the stroke beds and acute speech pathology team at Ryde Hospital. This role is a fantastic career opportunity and will include chances to develop skills in Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), leadership and service development.

The Ryde Hospital Redevelopment will result in new health facilities and enhanced services including emergency, ICU/critical care, inpatient units, outpatient/ambulatory care services and much more.

Construction commenced in early 2023, and will provideyou with a wonderful and exciting opportunity to be part of the Ryde team to change the future health services for the Ryde Community completely.


What you'll be doing

This senior position specialises in the early management of stroke patientswith communication and swallowing disorders at Ryde Hospital, including the up-skilling and education of the multidisciplinary team around the clinical care guidelines for stroke. This position will provide early intervention and rehabilitation for patients with communication and swallowing disorders in the acute setting prior to transfer to the on-site Graythwaite rehabilitation service. This position also has a strong leadership role as the only senior in the acute team, providing clinical supervision and supporting the manager in service development.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  1. A bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. Evidence of extensive clinical experience, inclusive of experience as a Level 2 Speech Pathologist or equivalent.
  2. Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement activities or service evaluation process. Experience in clinical teaching and supervision of students, level 1/2 Allied Health Professionals and/or Allied Health Assistants.
  3. Demonstrated current clinical knowledge and leadership in the management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders in stroke patients, and a high level of contemporary interventional speech pathology skills. Experience in instrumental swallow assessment (FEES and/or VFSS).
