We are currently looking for multiple full-time/part-time Radiographers (Medical Imaging Level 3) to join the dynamic team at Canberra Hospital for a 12-month contract with possible extension.

Under broad direction of the Deputy Director Medical Imaging, you will be accountable for the provision of high quality, efficient person centred imaging service. You will:

  • Be responsible for CT and Projection Radiography examinations conducted in the Medical Imaging Department, in accordance with the MRPB Code of Conduct and Professional Standards, the North Canberra Hospital protocols and Radiation Safety Management Plan.
  • Provide clinical leadership, mentoring, training and supervision for subordinate Radiographers and Radiography students.
  • Assist with the ongoing evaluation of clinical processes to ensure effective, evidence-based patient care, and be responsible for initiating and planning research projects within the service.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to optimise work practices within the Medical Imaging Department.
  • Be responsible for appropriate ongoing professional education and participate in continuous quality improvement of Medical Imaging Services.
  • Ensure that equipment is used and maintained in a safe manner, and report faults to the service providers and the Deputy Director, Medical Imaging.

Be available for out-of-hours clinical practice, including weekends, evening, on call and night shift.

  • Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Canberra is growing and so is Canberra Health Services (CHS). Canberra Hospital, the main tertiary hospital, is being expanded with a new 44,000 square metre state-of-the-art Critical Services Building that will open in 2024. The Critical Services Building will be home to a bigger Emergency Department with dedicated children’s emergency area, more operating rooms, more treatment spaces, and more intensive care beds.

The new building will be one of Australia’s newest and most technologically advanced health care facilities. It will have the latest in specialised medical imaging equipment, automated dispensing cabinets to support accurate and timely distribution of medicines, a centralised sterilising services unit and a pathology tube system within the emergency department. It will also have an Intraoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging Suite, three new Cardiac Cath Labs, including a Hybrid Cardiac Laboratory and an Electrophysiology Laboratory, increased inpatient rehabilitation services with two new gyms and more purpose-built spaces for bariatric patients.

Essential Criteria:

Mandatory:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and a minimum of two years’ recent experience in Computed Tomography.
  • Be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Hold, or be eligible to hold, an ACT Radiation Licence.
  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable:

  • Post-graduate qualifications in Management; Computed Tomography or other relevant area of study
  • Demonstrated participation or initiation of quality improvement activities
  • Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.
  • Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.
