The Position

An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Trials Principal Investigator in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Principal Investigator (Early Phase) provides medical, scientific, and strategic leadership to the organisation through the identification, selection, and execution of suitable clinical trials, focusing on first-in-human and early-phase trials.


Acts as Principal Investigator on studies, assuming ultimate responsibility for the safety, wellbeing, and rights of trial participants

Partnering with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to deliver excellence in clinical research and investigate potential new medicines by conducting clinical studies in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, and Christchurch.

Essential Criteria

  • Eligible for New Zealand medical practitioner registration with a current practicing certificate and professional indemnity cover. 

  • Must have substantial postgraduate experience, plus a suitable postgraduate qualification, in conducting first-in-human clinical trials; for example, one of the qualifications listed in the ABPI Guidelines for Phase 1 Clinical trials, 2018 edition.

  • Thorough understanding of Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH/GCP), and regulatory requirements. 

  • At least 5 years experience at a clinical research site, with experience as a Principal Investigator in first human clinical trials. 

  • Proven leadership/management experience.
