GP/Consultant/Specialist

Townsville Hospital and Health Service are seeking an experienced and client focused Vascular Surgeon to join the Podiatry Hub. This is a permanent part-time role, working 16 hours per fortnight.

This role will provide optimal patient care as a Surgeon in accordance with the standard of the specialty and the ethics of the profession.

The role of the Specialist is to provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients of the wider catchment of the Northern Foot Hub, namely Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS), North West Hospital and Health Service (NWHHS) and Mackay Hospital and Health Service (MHHS), by leading virtual muti-disciplinary team clinics and case discussions and providing expert opinion on the management of high-risk foot conditions.

Eligible Health Workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up permanent employment may receive up to $20,000 (pro rata) in incentive payments
under the 
Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme 

The role 
Lead and manage the provision of medical services in accordance with the standard of the speciality, the ethics of the profession and in accordance with the THHS and Queensland Health (QH) policies, in a hospital, community and outreach setting.

The hospital has an intensive care unit, radiology department with interventional capability, PET scanner, radiation oncology and the full range of Surgical and Medical specialty groups.

Role requirements

  • Qualified as a medical practitioner with qualifications in Vascular Surgery and current registration and / or eligible for registration as a specialist with the Medical Board of Australia in that field.
  • Candidates who will be obtaining fellowship in the near future are encouraged to apply. Appointment will be at a lower classification level until minimum requirements for the Staff Specialist classification are obtained.
  • All applicants must be awarded SoCP by the THHS Credentialing and SoCP committee.  All appointments are subject to maintenance of SoCP within the CSCF for the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken. 

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following:

  • Knowledge of current medical practices and issues, and evidence of an appropriate level of expertise in the skills of the discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to review, analyse and evaluate patient care for the identification of appropriate treatment and investigations.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete medical records – clinical, administrative and statistical.
  • Well-developed communication skills (written, oral and interpersonal skills) with the ability to communicate with all levels of staff and hospital clients from a variety of backgrounds.
  • A personal commitment to the maintenance of high standards in the clinical care to patients and proven ability to react promptly to emergency or urgent situations impacting upon patient care.
  • Ability to practice medicine in a cross cultural environment.
  • Build relationships with patients and members of the multidisciplinary team, using strong communications skills and negotiation skills to understand needs and to deliver a service that meets their needs and policy guidelines.
