Clinical Nurse Consultant/Specialist

The Operating Theatres at Townsville University Hospital are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse (Plastics) for a temporary part-time role up to 22/12/2024, working 40 hours per fortnight.

The Plastics Operating Theatre Clinical Nurse will provide direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education and support to patients/clients and nursing staff within the unit to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care.

The opportunity  
The Clinical Nurse (Plastics - Operating Theatre) will provide direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education and support to patients/clients and nursing staff within the unit to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care.

The Clinical Nurse is responsible for training staff in Plastic procedures, ordering of clinical supplies and equipment and rostering staff allocated to the theatre in consultation with the Nurse Unit Manager to ensure that theatre templates are covered.

The successful candidate must have current and extensive experience working within a plastics operating theatre.

Employment Term

  • Fixed Term Temporary part-time, commencing ASAP - 22/12/2024
    (40 hours per fortnight).

  • Salary rates between $54.44 - $58.30 p.h. (NG6-1)

Role requirements

  • Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • On call: Appointees may be required to participate in an on-call roster.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following: 

  • Proven ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care at an advanced level within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
  • Ability to provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.
  • Demonstrated ability and skills to perform the roles of a Instrument Nurse/Circulatory Nurse in accordance with Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (ACORN) standards.
  • Current and extensive experience working in a Plastics Operating Theatre is essential.
