The Registered Nurse at Sydney Sexual Health Centre (SSHC) coordinates and delivers high quality nursing care to clients attending SSHC and outreach/specialist services consistent with SESLHD policies, procedures and standards. The nursing staff provide a diverse range of specialist services including sexual health assessment, STI screening and treatment, client and community education and health promotion, in-patient triage, telephone services (including information, results provision and triage) and other duties as directed by the NUM. SSHC is one of the SESLHD sexual health and BBV services, and this position may collaborate with these services when required.

The nursing unit are actively involved in research and quality activities and participate in the weekly education program as well as external education opportunities. SSHC has a commitment to education and training, all nursing staff are accredited in their clinical practice by competencies and guided by local business rules and standard operating procedures.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.

A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.

In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.

Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  1. Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.
  4. Demonstrates good quality documentation skills and computer literacy and the ability to work with EMR systems, electronic booking systems and online results management
  5. A good understanding of the issues and needs of priority populations attending sexual health centre in an inner city setting.
  6. Demonstrated clinical experience working in the sexual health or related field or demonstrated interest in working in the sexual health sector.
  7. Demonstrated ability to work within a fast paced environment whilst ensuring safe, effective and high quality care.
