The Auckland Hospital & Specialist Dentistry Team (HSD), provides hospital-based secondary and tertiary level specialist oral health services for people living in the greater metropolitan Auckland area (1.7 million people). New Zealand’s largest city, Auckland offers access to a mixture of urban, beach and outdoor environments and activities (seeHeart of the City);study, work and living (seeAuckland for kids) andhas access to some of thebest schoolsin the country which, along with the above, makes it an ideal destination for families (seebest schools).

A rewarding opportunity has now arisen to join the HSD team as an Oral Medicine Specialist. You will be joining a supportive team of oral medicine consultants and a wider, multidisciplinary team of dedicated dental specialists and dentists. Established over 30 years ago, the oral medicine specialty area in HSD has >3000 (and growing) outpatient visits per year and there are also strong collegial affiliations with local dermatology, rheumatology and haematology/stem cell transplant services. You will also have opportunities for ongoing professional development, as well as the potential for research involvement.

The primary focus of this hospital-based role is the provision of comprehensive consultant-led oral medicine services including: the management of complex oral mucosal and potentially malignant diseases, oral disease occurring as a manifestation of systemic disease (especially with respect to salivary gland disorders) and complex orofacial pain. You will also provide supervision to a non-training oral medicine registrar and dental house officers on rotation.
