Clinical Nurse Consultant/Specialist

Townsville Hospital and Health Service is the public healthcare provider for more than 250,000 people across a geographic area of 150,000km2, delivering a comprehensive range of services across 21 facilities, from primary care in regional locations to highly specialised care at the main hospital.

Charters Towers Health Service, is a level 3 (CFCF), non-birthing, 23 bed rural hospital with an emergency service and ambulatory services. Ambulatory services include community health nursing, child health nursing, midwifery group practice (non-birthing), advanced health worker, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and social work onsite.

About your opportunity:

Fixed term temporary full-time or part-time / Multiple positions available / hours variable from 05/09/2024 up to 02/02/2025. 

and

Fixed term temporary part-time, 48 hours per fortnight up to 04/09/2024. 

The purpose of the Clinical Nurse is to provide clinical expertise, support and education to nursing staff within the Unit to ensure the provision of best practice and quality patient care.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following: 

  • Proven ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care at an advanced level within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
  • Ability to provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.

Skills and experience:

  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • Highly desirable: Experience in Emergency Department and a current Adult Life Support certificate.
  • Adult Life Support certificate: Must be able to obtain and then maintain an annual competency in Advanced Life Support as per Townsville Hospital and Health Service policy Life Support Training and Assessment -THSDCLI040151v613(Life Support Training and Assessment | THHSCLI040151 | Townsville HHS | TPPU | Procedures (health.qld.gov.au))
  • Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • Possession of class C drivers' licence.
  • Please note, from time-to-time this position will be required to travel to, and work at, other facilities located within the Rural Hospitals Service Group network to participate in meetings for planning, quality, performance, training and education, or clinical activities. This may involve day and/or overnight stays.

Generous pro rata remuneration package (based on full-time equivalent value) up to $132,289 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $54.44 to $58.30 p.h. (Nurse Grade 6, Band 1)
  • Annual leave with relevant loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
