Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the North Canberra Hospital offers a wide range of experience in O&G with exposure to the subspecialties of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Urogynaecology. The North Canberra Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for the ACT and surrounding region with over 1900 births per year.

The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children is the level 6 tertiary referral centre for the ACT and surrounding region with over 3700 births. It has a busy Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with a regional role extending throughout southern NSW and over 200 level 3 admissions each year.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology recognises the importance of work life balance and choice related to family planning. We are supportive of part time applicants and Maternity Leave.

This is a service role and duties will be in the area of inpatient ward work, outpatient clinics, early pregnancy care, acute obstetrics and emergency gynaecology. There will also be exposure to elective obstetric and gynaecology surgery. There will be significant scope to develop specific O&G related skills, such as ultrasound, suturing, and intrapartum procedures. There is also opportunity to develop skills in Caesarean section under supervision. This unit is supportive of the RANZCOG Diploma and can provide supervision to achieve this qualification during the 12 month contract.

DUTIES

Under limited direction of the Medical Unit Director you will perform you will:

  1. Clinical duties including care of patients in the Birthing Suite, Inpatient Units, Theatre, Outpatient clinics, Early Pregnancy Unit and Maternity Assessment Unit.

  2. Attend to administrative duties, including registrar and JMO rosters, and attend meetings requiring registrar representation.

  3. Provide support and advocacy for registrar and JMO cohort when required.

  4. Report regularly all matters of significance to the ITP Training Coordinator and Clinical Director.

  5. Participate in quality improvement, peer review and research programs.

  6. Participate in the lecturing and training of junior medical staff, medical students, Allied Health staff and nurses.
  7. Experience with clinical research and writing of scientific papers.

8. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory

· Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

· Desirable: previous experience in O&G as Junior Medical Officer

· Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities,

· Currency in an approved Advanced Life Support Course to be attained within three months of commencement with annual refreshers.

· CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable

· Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

· Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

WHAT YOU REQUIRE

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.

  1. MBBS degree registrable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  2. Ability to balance training and education requirements with service provision, within the limitations of a busy public health service.

  4. Demonstrable interpersonal, communication and team building skills appropriate to work in a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
