To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 3 prior to the commencement of the role.

Canberra Sexual Health Centre (CSHC) is based at The Canberra Hospital. We provide clinic-based care for sexual health, HIV and adult gender care as well as an outreach program in non-clinical settings. We have a strong philosophy of teamwork, evidence-based practice and continuing professional development, which is supported by a weekly in-service program.

The sexual health medicine SRMO works under specialist supervision and provides clinical care to patients with a diverse range of sexual and gender health and HIV related conditions and concerns. They will be required to respond to GP enquiries and provide occasional inpatient consultation. There are opportunities to undertake Hepatitis B and C as well as HIV prescriber (S100) training and gain experience in transgender and gender diverse care, non-forensic sexual assault care and public health aspects of sexual health medicine. Participation in teaching and research is encouraged.

There is some weekday extended hours work to 8pm. Sexual health SRMO are not rostered to respond to calls after hours (evenings or weekends), which makes this position life-style friendly.

Duties:

· With onsite specialist or senior clinician supervision, provide competent and efficient clinical care for patients attending appointments at Canberra Sexual Health Centre.

· Train in the progress of skills and knowledge in sexual & gender health care and HIV medicine.

·

· Work collaboratively, flexibly, and efficiently and within an inter-professional clinical team.

· Participate in the supervision of medical students within clinical consultations.

· All SRMO are required to participate in the outreach, teaching and research activities of the unit as well as relevant formal and informal education and self-directed learning.

· Contribute to clinical audits/ quality improvement activities and participate in changes that improve quality and safety of patient care.

· Comply with the policies and requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), RACP/RACGP and the CHS.

· Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation.

Position Requirements / Qualifications

Mandatory:

· Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

· To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 3 prior to the commencement of the role.

Demonstrate commitment to training and continuing professional development including participation in relevant teaching programs, activities, and feedback opportunities.

· Applicants who are undertaking GP training may be approved for a special skills rotation in this position. These applicants are required to meet their training organisation requirements.

  • CHS is leading the drive to digitally transform health service delivery in Australia through the implementation of a territory wide Digital Health Record. Computer literacy skills are required which are relevant to this role as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems; once proficient, you will need to remain current with changes, updates and contingencies.

Desirable

  • Clinical experience or research in sexual health, women’s health, infectious diseases, justice health, addiction medicine or other relevant discipline

· Family Planning Association Australia (FPAA) National Certificate in Reproductive & Sexual Health for Doctors

  • S100 HIV prescriber training
  • ACT Health Child Protection Level 3 training
  • The successful applicant will need to be available for occasional after-hours work to 8pm.

· Have an understanding of how the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) indicators align with this role.

· Fulfil the responsibilities of this role in alignment to the CHS Exceptional Care Framework, Clinical Governance Framework, Partnering With Consumers Framework and all other related frameworks.

· Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

· Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

WHAT YOU REQUIRE

These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.

  1. Clinical competence and professionalism commensurate with a postgraduate year four or above to provide sexual health care to a range of priority populations.
  2. Ability to work independently, remaining within scope of practice, in a complex outpatient environment under consultant and other senior staff supervision.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development in sexual & gender health care and HIV medicine (both formal education and self-directed learning) as well as ACT Health essential education.
  4. Sound organisational, written and verbal communication skills and Microsoft Office skills, current Basic Life Support training and the commitment to work collaboratively and flexibly in an inter-professional clinical team.

5. Demonstrated understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience. Display behaviour consistent with CHS’s values of reliable, progressive, respectful and kind.
