Townsville University Hospital, located adjacent to one of Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions, James Cook University, is the largest tertiary hospital in northern Australia, providing specialist referral services for 700,000 people living from Mackay, to the Torres Strait, to the Northern Territory border.

About your opportunity:

Clinical Nurse / Permanent full-time opportunity / Location: Palm Island

The successful candidate will be someone who can work autonomously and someone who has excellent communication and leadership skills along with the ability to make clinical decisions by providing direct nursing care utilising clinical skills, education, and support to patients and nursing staff within the unit to ensure the provision of best practice quality care. The Palm Island dialysis unit is a four-chair satellite unit which offers a six-day service providing high-quality person-centred care to patients located on Palm Island.

The Townsville University Hospital renal services provides acute and chronic renal replacement therapy in a variety of settings, including incentre, satellite and home-based haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, to patients with renal failure. The renal unit staff also provide regular education and outreach services to community groups, staff and family members involved in caring for people with renal failure within the Townsville Hospital and Health Service.

Staff will be eligible for Remote Area Nursing Incentive Package (RANIP) as per Nurses and Midwives (Queensland Health) Award - State 2015, as well as the Workforce Attraction Incentive Scheme.

Generous remuneration package value up to $132,289 p.a. comprising:

  • Salary range of $4138.10 to $4431.10 p.f. (Nurse Grade 6, Band 1)
  • Annual leave with relevant leave loading
  • 12.75% employer contribution to superannuation.
  • Rural and Remote Incentive Package (RANIP): Successful applicants to this position may be eligible for RANIP.
  • Accommodation: On-site single staff accommodation will be provided for the successful applicant.

Requirements:

  • Proof of qualification, registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and possession of a current practising certificate.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Highly Desirable: Possession of a relevant postgraduate qualification in an appropriate field is highly desirable. Such experience may be discipline specific or have a service area focus.
  • Highly Desirable: Renal dialysis experience.
  • Shift Workers: Appointees will be required to work all shifts in accordance with the unit roster, which will include participation in an on-call roster.
  • Travel: Travel by light aircraft may be required from Townsville to Palm Island and return.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
