Clinical Nurse Consultant/Specialist

Townsville Community Health Service located at Kirwan Health Service are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse for a Refugee and Community Health role. The is a permanent part-time role, working 38 hours per fortnight.

This role is responsible for assisting with all aspect of community health nursing care as well as the coordination of health screening for refugees relocating to Townsville, linkage to primary health care providers and providing access to defined clinical services outlined in the refugee health program under the Commonwealth Humanitarian Settlement Program.

Eligible Health Workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up permanent employment may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments
under the 
Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme 

The opportunity   
This role works autonomously within the Healthcare Team structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing, and delivering of refugee specialist nursing care and in collaboration and close communication with the Townsville Multicultural Group, General Practices and the Townsville University Hospital to provide successful coordination of health screening and settlement services to transition successfully into their new lives through community connections.

  • Permanent part-time, 38 hours per fortnight

  • Salary rates between $54.44 - $58.30 p.h. (NG6-1)

Role requirements

  • Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent is a mandatory qualification for this position.
  • Highly Desirable: 
    • Postgraduate qualifications relevant to the position or working towards a relevant qualification. 
    • Ongoing professional development relevant to the delivery of specialist Medical Services Group (MSG) to maintain appropriate registration and/or association requirements is a requirement of all staff.
  • All employees of the MSG may be required to work in other areas of the Service.
  • Drivers Licence: This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this vehicle is required.  Proof of this endorsement must be provided prior to the commencement of duty.
  • The applicant ideally will have a working knowledge of a range of software packages used in the clinical and management environment, including the Microsoft Windows, Excel, Access, and Power Point.

The ideal applicant will be someone who has proven ability and can demonstrate the following: 

  • Knowledge of circumstances and health issues relevant to the refugee population.
  • Proven ability to comprehensively assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care at an advanced level within a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with team members, patients and other stakeholders, including participation in relevant networks to achieve work unit outcomes.
  • Ability to provide nursing leadership in the clinical and professional setting including the role modelling of effective communication and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to use information and reporting systems appropriate to the position in order to achieve outcomes and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proven ability to provide clinical education and support at an advanced level and demonstrate own professional development.
