About the role:

The Paediatric Social Work Manager operationally manages the Paediatric Social Work team at John Hunter Children’s Hospital providing operational management across the Inpatient wards, the Emergency Department, the Paediatric Outpatient Services and limited Community Services.

The Paediatric Social Work team consists of experienced and passionate Social Workers and skilled, dedicated Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers. You will be working alongside other Allied Health Managers to deliver innovative and evidence-based care in the child-centred, family-focused environment of John Hunter Children’s Hospital where growth, innovation and creativity is encouraged.

In this role you will carry a caseload in the area of neurology and provide intervention in multidisciplinary Neurology Outpatient Clinics. This role blends management and direct clinical work therefore it’s a great opportunity for someone wanting to build on their leadership experience whilst still building on their Social Work skills.

Participation in the John Hunter and John Hunter Children’s Hospital Social Work On-Call roster is required approximately once a month.

This role reports to the Manager of Community and Allied Health and there will be regular opportunities for the candidate to access support both formally and informally.

Requirements:

Our successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Eligibility to drive in NSW.
  • Degree providing eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association/full registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.


About you:

  • You will be a passionate Social Worker enthusiastic to improve the lives of Children, Young People and their Families.
  • You will value the importance of partnerships and working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • You will have advanced communication skills to navigate working with external stakeholders such as DCJ.
  • You will have significant clinical experience to be able to advise and support less experienced staff around complex psychosocial matters such as Child Protection, Mental Health, Domestic and Family Violence.
  • You will be open to new ideas and new developments and contribute to a culture of improvement in relation to services.
  • You will have skills and experience in prioritising and managing both clinical and operational responsibilities.
