Te whiwhinga mahi| The Opportunity

National Public Health Service's Regional Health Protection services are effective in preventing and controlling health protection risks and hazards, achieve equity; are responsive to the needs of community and whānau and are delivered in partnership with Iwi and Māori communities by a Tiriti dynamic and culturally responsive workforce.

This role is within the Health Protection Directorate in the Northern Region. This is a new role within the communicable diseases team. You will responsible for supporting and working with our medical and nursing team to meet the needs of vulnerable patients and their whanau that have been affected by a communicable disease. These patients may not be connected to primary care or have difficulty accessing primary and tertiary care options. You will contribute to the development of our nursing team to support them with identifying and managing complex social, physical and environmental factors that can contribute to poor health. You will be able to demonstrate advanced clinical nursing practice. You will bring a commitment to leading a new way of working that is aligned with and will deliver Pae Ora.

Mōu | About you

You will be an experienced nurse practitioner with an interest in communicable disease and public health and have strong ties to primary and community care, you will be experienced in developing pathways and initiating change to better meet the needs of our patients and population.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Nurse Practitioner with experience in Primary and Community Care
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the professional development of nursing staff
  • Current annual practicing certificate
  • Has experience in working with iwi/ hapū and Māori communities
  • Proven relationships with Pacific communities and leaders
  • Minimum 5 years in varied environments with responsibilities for achieving equitable health outcomes and responsive to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

  • A commitment to being a good Te Tiriti partner in all your actions. This includes an understanding of the significance of and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the ability to apply Te Tiriti principles in a meaningful way in this role
