Te whiwhinga mahi| The Opportunity

Our Women’s Assessment Unit and Day Assessment Unit need your expert midwifery assessment skills and work with us to provide awesome care to women accessing our acute and DAU services.

Women’s Assessment Unit (WAU)

WAU is a 16 bed unit providing care for whānau accessing acute maternity and gynaecology services at Te Toka Tumai Auckland hospital, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. WAU is similar to a Women’s Health emergency department.

Our services include maternity assessments, both antepartum and postpartum up to six weeks, induction of labour, pregnant and non-pregnant acute gynaecological conditions, and a perinatal loss service for women 20 weeks and over who experience a fetal death in utero or require a termination of pregnancy for medical indications or fetal abnormality.

Our team includes Clinical Charge Midwives, Midwives, Gynaecology Nurses, Health Care Assistants and Ward Clerks. The team liaise closely with the multidisciplinary team, including our medical teams, community LMC midwives and private obstetricians with access to our facilitiy.

Day Assessment Unit (DAU)

Our DAU provides planned care for a wild range of pregnancy issues such as:

- SGA/FGR pathway

- RFM follow up

- ECV

- Iron infusion

- Bloods and USS reviews

About the Role:

As a Clinical Midwife Specialist you will be a highly competent and confident midwife with a commitment to keeping birth normal and be experienced managing women experiencing pregnancy complexities. You will provide triage and prioritisation services for hāpū whanau accessing WAU and plan their placement within our service. Some will stay in WAU for full midwifery and medical assessment, some to labour and birthing unit and others will be directed to our midwifery-led unit. You will also be part of a team providing planned care to women with increased risk pregnancies accessing our DAU. In both areas you will work to the top of your midwifery scope and with full autonomy consulting with other members of the team as and when required.

Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills

We are looking for the following requirements:

· You must be a registered midwife, at least 3 and ideally 5 years of post-registration practice

· Have a great understanding of and commitment to ensuring, equitable access and service provision and hold a post-graduate qualification or be working towards one

· You role model excellent midwifery practice and work within the NZCOM standards of practice, with a commitment to incorporating the principles of Turanga Kaupapa within your practice.
