Starship Child Healthhas an opportunity for anexperienced Occupational Therapistto join our Paediatric Therapy team working Full time / part time in theStarship Chronic Pain Serviceand across the Starship inpatient wards.We are a friendly, hard-working and skilled team, every day we provide; complex pain assessment, specific pain management, therapy and support to children predominantly in an outpatient setting. This is apermanentposition (24-40 hours/week) and the role designation is dependent on experience

  • Provide an occupational therapy service to children and adolescents with persistent or recurrent pain conditions
  • Collaborate with the inter-professional team to provide a whānau-centred approach and demonstrate a robust level of contemporary occupational therapy theory and practice to provide effective assessment and interventions, whilst establishing enabling relationships with children and their whānau (family)
  • Demonstrate culturally safe practice that encompasses a diverse range of beliefs, values and practices
  • Thrive within a vibrant, innovative and diverse setting amongst a supportive interdisciplinary team of consultants, nurse specialists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech language therapists, clinical neuropsychologists and team support

The specialist aspect of the Chronic Pain Service is required to meet the needs of children and adolescents who have:

  • Developed chronic pain as a result of an injury, illness, medical or surgical intervention
  • A disability including, but not restricted to, functional and/or psychological impairment
  • A requirement for a graduated rehabilitation programme from an inter-professional team that is beyond the capabilities of secondary services

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • NZ registration as an Occupational Therapist with current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • 4+ years of post-graduate clinical work experience
  • We may consider part-time applicants for this role
  • Experience working in paediatric rehabilitation or complex pain (advantageous)
  • Proven experience working in paediatrics (desirable)
  • Sound clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence informed practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • Drive, energy and initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
