What you'll be doing

This position requires the applicant to have lived experience of a drug and/or alcohol issue and accessing drug and alcohol services. The position will provide a link between clients, clinicians and services, with a focus on improving the patient journey and treatment outcomes.


To develop strong and effective stakeholder partnerships. Provide resources, advocacy and support to consumers and carers of the Drug and Alcohol Service. To work with staff to ensure the consumer is considered when developing education programs, interviewing for positions, conducting research or quality activities and changing service models. This position provides the above service to the ISLHD Drug and Alcohol Service.


All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

Selection Criteria

  1. Must have a lived experience of addiction and a level of recovery that enables you to share personal lived experience.
  2. Comprehensive understanding of the Harm Minimisation Framework and the underlying principles.
  3. Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Ability to work with people from Diverse Cultural Backgrounds with specific reference to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  5. Demonstrated ability to positively engage, interact and work with people who have complex needs.
  6. Ability to undertake flexible working hours, evenings and weekends as required.
  7. Current NSW Drivers Licence, with the ability to travel in accordance with position responsibilities.
