The Haematology unit is looking for 2 Staff Specialists part time. This role provides specialist Haematological clinical care to patients and assumes overall responsibility for patient care. Services provided include:  Provides specialist Haematology services at Metro South Hospital and Health Service. Please note this position will be required to work at other facilities located across Metro South Health including satellite clinics.  Provides inpatient care for Haematology patients, including participating in the on-call roster  Provides outpatient clinic services across the range of specialty clinics and clinic locations

 About the Role

  • This role reports to Clinical Director, Haematology.
  • This position fulfils accountabilities and responsibilities in accordance with Metro South's purpose and objectives.

Clinical and leadership skills

  • Provision of services to patients in accordance with the standards of the discipline and the ethics of the profession.
  • Provision of care for patients that are consistent with the Clinical Services Capability Framework of the relevant facilities within the Health Service
  • Specific duties may involve ward rounds, outpatient services (including Telehealth and outreach services, if appropriate), multidisciplinary team meetings and collaboration with other medical teams or other professional streams.
  • Enable clinical pathways and early discharge procedures.
  • Document relevant clinical information clearly, concisely, accurately, and appropriately.
  • Ensure appropriate handover of patients, as needed.
  • Role model desired standards of behaviour, promoting a positive attitude, enthusiasm, respect and support of other staff, effective communication and ethical decision making.
  • Liaise and collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective team functioning, positive patient outcomes and the achievement of departmental objectives.

Quality assurance and clinical governance activities

  • Maintain clinical service standards, guidelines, procedures and policies.
  • Develop and implement the practice of continuous quality improvement and total quality management to achieve quality and safety outcomes in patient care at all levels of clinical and administrative practice, including active participation in clinical audits, clinical meetings, and clinical incident management resolution.
  • Actively participate in Hospital's Integrated Risk Management and Safety Program, including participation in Incident Monitoring System and Root Cause Analysis where appropriate.
  • Lead and manage staff by fostering and committing to patient safety and quality in the delivery of health care by maintaining, evaluating, and improving safety and quality practices and initiatives.
