The Position

The Director Medical Services (DMS) is responsible for the provision of expert professional and clinical leadership in the strategic and operational management of Medical Services and Medical Workforce within Lower Mid North Coast Sector (LMNCS).

As a member of the hospital/service executive, the DMS contributes to the leadership and relevant management of the sector/facility/service, ensuring patients experience the best possible care, safely and compassionately, whilst enabling staff to work in a safe, healthy and culturally sensitive environment.

The DMS is responsible for the leadership of both the Senior Medical Officers (SMO) and Junior Medical Officers (JMO) working in LMNCS which consists of Manning Base Hospital, Gloucester Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Bulahdelah Hospital (Community Health Service), Wingham Hospital (Rehabilitation Unit).

The DMS provides leadership for medical matters with a particular focus on coordination and delivery of high quality and safe clinical services, performance management and well-being of junior and senior medical staff as well as workforce matters ensuring the medical workforce is operating at its full potential.

This position is responsible for ensuring a commitment by all medical staff to Excellence, Every Patient, Every Time, facilitating effective communication and enabling a positive culture in line with the strategic direction and values of Hunter New England Health.

Essential Criteria

A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and Fellowship of an Australian specialist medical college, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (FRACMA) is desirable, but not essential. Candidates anticipating FRACMA in the next 12 months are welcome to apply.

The Package

Staff Specialist Award

Staff Specialists receive the full entitlements of permanent NSW Health employment, including superannuation, leave benefits, salary packaging, relocation support (where applicable), and access to incentives.

Base salaries are determined under the Staff Specialists (State) Award, with indicative ranges from approximately $270,247 to $333,491 per annum + superannuation, depending on experience and allowances (based on a 40‑hour week).
