About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available for a Registered Nurse to join Newcastle Community Mental Health Service, located at the James Fletcher Hospital site.

From day one, you’ll be supported through an exceptional orientation program designed to help you transition confidently into the role. Reporting to the HSM2 Team Manager, you’ll be part of a team committed to providing high-quality care while supporting each other to deliver the best possible outcomes.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Registered Nurse within Newcastle Community Mental Health Service, you’ll provide high-quality clinical care to clients and their families and carers across the community.

You will:

  • Provide comprehensive, person-centred mental health nursing care.
  • Deliver high-quality clinical services focused on achieving positive health outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, families, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contribute to assessment, care planning, intervention and ongoing review of client needs.
  • Build therapeutic relationships that support engagement, recovery and wellbeing.
  • Work effectively within a dynamic and fast-paced mental health environment.
  • Use clinical judgement and evidence-based practice to support safe and effective care.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and other health professionals to support coordinated care.
  • Work autonomously while knowing when to seek advice and support.
  • Contribute to a positive team culture and continuous improvement within the service.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced Mental Health Registered Nurse who is passionate about providing compassionate, recovery-focused care and enjoys working in a collaborative environment.

You will bring:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • Experience working within mental health and across a range of clinical settings.
  • Strong clinical assessment, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work confidently in a busy and fast-paced mental health environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to build strong therapeutic relationships with clients and their families and carers.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • A commitment to evidence-based, person-centred and recovery-focused practice.
  • A genuine commitment to ongoing learning, professional development and quality improvement.

To be eligible for permanent employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport.
