About the opportunity

Werribee Mercy Hospital is entering a landmark new phase, with the opening of a major Emergency Department expansion. This expansion will significantly increase our capacity and enable us to meet the rapidly growing healthcare needs of the Wyndham community, providing timely, high-quality emergency care to an additional 25,000 patients each year. The expanded will increase treatment spaces from 33 to 67, including state-of-the-art resuscitation bays and dedicated short-stay beds, creating one of Victoria's most exciting Emergency Department growth opportunities. As an Associate Nurse Unit Manager, you will play a key leadership role within the Emergency Department nursing team, supporting the Nurse Unit Manager and Clinical Nurse Managers to deliver safe, effective and patient-centred care. You will provide clinical leadership, coordinate daily operations, and support nursing staff to achieve excellent patient outcomes in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This 12-month fixed term opportunity has been designed to support leadership development within our Emergency Department. We welcome applicants from experienced Emergency Department nurses who may not have previous ANUM experience but are looking to take the next step in their clinical leadership journey. Through dedicated mentorship, coaching and support from experienced Emergency Department leaders, you will have the opportunity to build your leadership capability while making a meaningful contribution to the departments continued growth and success.

Whether you already have leadership experience or are looking to transition into your first formal nursing leadership position, you are committed to supporting others and delivering exceptional patient-centred care.
To thrive in this role, you will have:
  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Postgraduate qualification in Critical Care, Emergency Nursing or a related specialty
  • Minimum five years' experience in acute and/or Emergency Department nursing
  • Demonstrated ability to support and influence colleagues within a clinical environment
  • Excellent clinical, organisational, communication and time management skills
  • Strong decision-making and problem solving skills in complex clinical environments
  • A genuine interest in developing leadership capability and supporting team performance
  • Commitment to patient-centred care, quality improvement and clinical excellence
  • Ability to build strong relationships and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
You will:
  • Assist in the operational leadership and day-to-day coordination of the Emergency Department
  • Provide clinical leadership and support to nursing staff across all shifts
  • Promote evidence-based practice and ensure safe, high-quality patient care
  • Support workforce development, onboarding and staff capability building
  • Coordinate patient flow and resource allocation within a busy Emergency Department environment
  • Contribute to quality improvement, patient safety and accreditation activities
  • Foster a positive team culture built on collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement
  • Be part of an exciting ED expansion that will help shape the future of emergency care in Wyndham
Desirable:
  • Previous experience acting in senior, in-charge or leadership shifts within a Emergency Department
  • Experience participating in quality improvement, education or workforce initiatives
  • Previous ANUM, Clinical Support Nurse or equivalent leadership experience
You will also be required to provide evidence of, or be in the process of obtaining:
  • A current Police Record Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders
