As an After-Hours Nurse Manager at Armidale Rural Referral Hospital, you’ll provide trusted clinical and operational leadership across the hospital, ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care and staff feel supported when it matters most.
From coordinating patient flow and responding to changing priorities to supporting teams through complex clinical situations, you’ll play a key role in keeping the hospital running safely and effectively after hours.

What You’ll Do
Working across the hospital, you will provide visible and supportive clinical and operational leadership, helping staff navigate complex situations and deliver safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
You will:
- Coordinate patient flow, bed allocation and clinical priorities.
- Provide strong clinical leadership, guidance and support to staff.
- Respond confidently to emergencies and changing clinical situations.
- Manage competing priorities and make sound, timely decisions.
- Promote safe, person-centred and evidence-informed care.
- Build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
- Support staff to deliver high-quality care in a dynamic after-hours environment.
You’ll bring the confidence to make decisions, the clinical judgement to manage complexity and the communication skills to bring people together.
Experience in operational, acute or critical care environments is highly desirable.

At Armidale Rural Referral Hospital, you won’t be stepping into leadership alone.
You’ll work closely with the Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Deputy Director of Nursing, with supernumerary orientation shifts to support your transition into the role.

To be successful, you will:
- Hold current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Have relevant postgraduate leadership or management qualifications, or a willingness to undertake further study.
- Demonstrate strong clinical leadership, judgement and decision-making skills.
- Deliver safe, person-centred and evidence-informed care.
- Respond confidently to emergencies and changing clinical priorities.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
