Senior Medical Officer (Team Lead) Early Phase Clinical Research

Location: Brisbane

A leading clinical research organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Officer to provide medical leadership across early-phase and first-in-human clinical trials. This role combines clinical oversight, team leadership, participant safety, and operational excellence, supporting the successful delivery of complex clinical studies within a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and support a team of Medical Officers across clinical research programs.
  • Provide medical oversight for participant eligibility, safety assessments, adverse events, and protocol compliance.
  • Act as a key clinical resource for study teams, supporting protocol interpretation and operational decision-making.
  • Contribute to study feasibility, start-up activities, risk assessments, and investigator meetings.
  • Support quality management activities, including CAPAs, deviations, audits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, staff development, and medical training programs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient study delivery.
  • Act as a Sub-Investigator on clinical studies where required.

Requirements

  • Medical Degree with unrestricted AHPRA registration.
  • Minimum 3 years' post-registration clinical experience.
  • Previous experience within clinical trials, clinical research, or early-phase research environments.
  • Strong understanding of GCP, participant safety, and clinical governance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, or leading medical professionals.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.

Ideal Background Suitable candidates may come from Phase I units, CROs, clinical research organisations, hospitals, or academic research centres. Experience as a Medical Officer, Sub-Investigator, Principal Investigator, or Clinical Research Physician within early-phase, first-in-human, or complex clinical trial environments would be highly advantageous.
