St John of God Warrnambool Hospital is a private hospital delivering exceptional, patient-focused care to people living in rural south-western Victoria and South Australia. The operating theatre provides for a range of specialties, including general surgery, gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, plastics, and urology.
About the role
We are seeking a Trainee Theatre Technician to join our Theatre team on a 12 month fixed-term, part-time basis, working 60 hours per fortnight, with the opportunity for ongoing employment post qualification.
This is an entry level role, offering a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their skills and build a career within an operating theatre environment. You will gain practical, hands-on experience while supporting the day-to-day operations of our theatre complex and working towards the required qualification.
In this role, you will assist with:
• Preparing operating rooms for surgical and endoscopic procedures
• Setting up and checking theatre equipment
• Transporting, cleaning and maintaining equipment
• Ensuring furniture, appliances and supplies are ready for procedures
• Assisting with patient positioning
• Supporting the wider Theatre team
Roster: Primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work. Shifts operate between 7:30am and 9:00pm. Weekday staff also participate in an on-call roster.
If you’re eager to learn, enjoy working as part of a team and are interested in developing a career within the operating theatre environment, we’d love to hear from you.
Your skills and experience
You will bring strong communication skills, a willingness to learn and a commitment to safe work practices, including an understanding of relevant OH&S requirements.
As this is a trainee opportunity, you do not need to already hold the Certificate IV in Operating Theatre Technical Support. You will need to be willing to undertake this qualification as part of your development in the role. Previous experience in an operating theatre or similar healthcare environment is desirable.
Above all, people will be at the core of everything you do, committing to and supporting our Mission and Values.
We can offer you
- Salary: $69,910 AUD per annum (pro rata for part time) plus 12% superannuation
- Fixed-term, part-time contract for 60 hours per fortnight until October 2027
- Salary packaging up to $18,550 on a range of benefits such as mortgage, rent, meal entertainment, holiday accommodation and other everyday living expenses, as well as options to salary package benefits above the FBT cap, including:
