About the role:
The Gorman Unit Senior Social Worker will work as part of the St Vincent’s Drug Health Service (DHS) to provide clinical leadership to the allied health staff of the Gorman Unit. This role will ensure high level service to patients, their families and carers and will provide assessments, counselling and case management to both the Gorman inpatient and outpatient service.

The position will also be responsible for conducting assessments, care planning, brief interventions and discharge planning to clients accessing the service. The social worker will assist in the development and facilitation of therapeutic groups. The incumbent will liaise with other health care professionals within St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and with external agencies relevant to the area of clinical allocation. The social worker is responsible for ensuring that appropriate treatment strategies are conducted in consultation with consumers of the service and that outcome measures are routinely gathered. The Gorman Unit Senior Social Worker shall be expected to provide supervision to staff and students as required, conduct educations sessions for staff of all disciplines, provide training and support excellence in clinical practice founded in current evidence.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  2. Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent qualification eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
  3. Demonstrated experience in assessment, individual counselling and group facilitation
  4. Demonstrated competencies and experience in the clinical leadership of health professionals and in the provision of clinical supervision of staff and students.
  5. Demonstrated effective time management skills and ability to priorities competing workloads with in a complex environment.
  6. High level understanding and experience of the complex social issues related to harm reduction and strengths-based approaches in working with people affected with substance use.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with report writing and computer literacy
  8. Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and evaluating quality
