As part of the Federal Government’s new Migration Strategy, Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) is responsible for labour market analysis and stakeholder engagement to help inform the Core Skills Occupations List (CSOL). The CSOL should help to align temporary skilled migration to Australia’s workforce needs. It will identify occupations suitable for the Skills in Demand (SID) visa and Core Skills Pathway. Therefore, CSOL occupations will be ANZSCO Skill Level 1 to 3 occupations that earn between $70,000 - $135,000 per annum.
To help develop the CSOL, JSA is currently consulting with businesses, workers, job seekers, state and territory governments, academics and researchers, unions and employee bodies, and other organisations that provide services to potential and recent migrants (such as skill assessing and licensing bodies). They have published a draft CSOL for consultation purposes, which is categorised into three groups:
- Skilled occupations the JSA Migration Model is confident should be on the CSOL.
- Skilled occupations the JSA Migration Model suggests should be targeted for stakeholder feedback.
- Skilled occupations the JSA Migration Model suggests should not be on the CSOL.
Table 1 and 2 below list the Health Sector Occupations on JSA’s Draft CSOL, including skilled occupations that JSA is confident will be included in the final CSOL, and those targeted for further consultation and analysis.

As global competition for health sector workers and highly skilled specialists intensifies, Australia's upcoming Skills in Demand Visa, scheduled for implementation in late 2024, is poised to enhance the country's appeal as a desirable destination for migrants.
This new visa will offer increased flexibility, greater protections, and expedited processing times for migrant workers. With a comprehensive list of health sector occupations set to be included in the CSOL, Australia is likely to strengthen its health workforce with an improved supply of skilled migrant professionals.
