Full Time | Fixed Term (Parental Leave) until November 2027
Build your acute Social Work experience in a busy hospital environment where no two days are the same and your work can make a genuine difference for patients and families. We are looking for a Grade 2 Social Worker to join our supportive Adult Acute Social Work team at Dandenong Hospital on a full-time fixed-term opportunity, until November 2027.
About the Role
Working within a busy and diverse acute hospital environment, you will provide high-quality Social Work assessment and intervention to patients and their families during what can often be an unexpected or challenging time in their lives. You will have the opportunity to work across a range of clinical areas, including general medicine, surgery, Emergency, Women’s and Children’s and other specialty services.
As part of the role, you will:
- Undertake comprehensive psychosocial and risk assessments
- Support complex discharge planning and care coordination
- Provide counselling, advocacy and practical support to patients and families
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support safe, person-centred care
- Connect patients and families with appropriate community services and supports
- Contribute to the ongoing development of Social Work practice and service delivery
You’ll be joining an experienced and collaborative Social Work team, with access to professional support, supervision and opportunities to continue developing your clinical skills.
About You
You are a compassionate and capable Social Worker who enjoys working collaboratively and can confidently navigate the challenges and changing priorities of an acute hospital environment. You bring strong communication and interpersonal skills, sound clinical judgement and a genuine commitment to supporting patients and families.
You will also have:
- An AASW-accredited Bachelor or entry-level Master of Social Work, providing eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers
- A minimum of two years' post-graduate Social Work experience
- Well-developed psychosocial assessment and complex discharge planning skills
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- An understanding of working effectively with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
- A commitment to safe, high-quality and person-centred care
- A current Victorian driver's licence
Previous experience within a hospital or healthcare setting will be highly regarded.
Why Join Us?
Social Work in an acute hospital setting gives you the opportunity to be there for people when they may need support most — helping patients and families navigate illness, unexpected change, difficult decisions and the transition from hospital back into the community.
At Dandenong Hospital, you’ll be surrounded by experienced clinicians who understand the complexity of this work and value the contribution Social Work brings to patient care. You’ll have the opportunity to broaden your acute clinical experience, work across diverse patient cohorts and continue building your career within one of Victoria’s largest health services.
You’ll also have access to:
- Regular clinical support and professional development
- Opportunities to learn across a diverse range of clinical areas
- Salary packaging and employee benefits
- Employee Assistance Program
- Staff wellbeing initiatives and onsite facilities
- Career development opportunities across the broader Monash Health Social Work service
If you’re looking for your next opportunity to grow your acute Social Work experience while making a meaningful difference for patients and families, we’d love to hear from you.
For a confidential discussion and to explore this opportunity further, please reach out to Brooke Webb, Social Work Manager on 0417 319 163 or email [email protected].

Part-time | 0.6 EFT (22.8 hours per week / 3 days) | Ongoing
About the Role
Join our Child & Family Program as a Grade 2 Social Worker and make a meaningful difference for children and families experiencing complex health and psychosocial challenges. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll provide specialist social work assessment, intervention, counselling and advocacy to children and families across the City of Greater Dandenong, City of Casey and Shire of Cardinia.
This is a varied community-based role where you’ll work alongside families to understand their individual circumstances, build on their strengths and connect them with the services and supports they need. Your work will include:
- Providing comprehensive psychosocial assessment and intervention
- Supporting families experiencing crisis, family violence and other complex circumstances
- Providing parenting support and advocacy
- Supporting families to navigate the NDIS and other complex service systems
- Connecting families with community services, housing, material aid and other practical supports
- Assessing and responding to risk in partnership with families and relevant services
- Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to provide coordinated, child and family-centred care
You’ll work across community sites and provide outreach as required, giving you the opportunity to support children and families within the communities in which they live.
About the Program
The Child & Family Program sits within Monash Children’s and provides multidisciplinary care focused on improving the health, wellbeing and developmental outcomes of children and families. Our team includes Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Dietitians, Counsellors, Family Support Workers, Community Development Workers and other allied health professionals.
Together, we support children and families through collaborative, evidence-based practice informed by the Social Model of Health, recognising the broader social, cultural and environmental factors that influence a child’s health and wellbeing. The program also includes Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies (HMHB) and works closely with health, education and community services to provide integrated support for families.
About You
You are an experienced and compassionate Social Worker who is passionate about supporting children, families and communities. You’re confident working with psychosocial complexity and understand that improving a child’s health and wellbeing often means looking beyond their immediate clinical needs to the broader circumstances affecting their family.
You will bring:
- A Bachelor or qualifying Master of Social Work, or equivalent qualification recognised by the AASW
- Eligibility for ordinary membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Experience in psychosocial assessment, intervention, counselling and care coordination
- Experience working with vulnerable or at-risk children and families, including refugee and culturally diverse communities
- Knowledge of complex service systems including NDIS, family violence and Child Protection
- Strong risk assessment, communication and advocacy skills
- The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Why Join Us?
Social work can make an extraordinary difference to a child’s health — particularly when families are navigating challenges that extend far beyond the healthcare system.
In the Child & Family Program, you’ll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with children and families and help address the practical, social and systemic barriers affecting their health and wellbeing. You’ll join an experienced multidisciplinary team where Social Work is an important part of the bigger picture — bringing a psychosocial perspective, advocating for families and helping connect them with the right support at the right time.
You’ll also have opportunities to:
- Work across a diverse and rewarding paediatric and community caseload
- Further develop your specialist child and family Social Work practice
- Work alongside experienced clinicians from a broad range of disciplines
- Contribute to quality improvement, education and service development
- Access professional supervision and ongoing learning opportunities
- Build your career within Monash Health’s broader Social Work service
If you’re passionate about paediatric Social Work and supporting children and families experiencing vulnerability and complexity, we’d love to hear from you.
For a confidential discussion and to explore this opportunity further, please reach out to Sam Challands, Program Manager - Child and Family Program including HMHB and School Readiness, on 0405 357 026.
