We provide safe and equitable care, for every stage of life, delivered with world-leading expertise and over 175 years of experience. Our team of 24,000 people are full hearted, open minded and all in. Together, we provide more than 250 integrated services for every stage of life at over 50 locations and in the community across south-east Melbourne, Victoria, serving 1.2 million residents in the South Metro Local Health Service Network.
To see first-hand what our colleagues think about working here, take a look at the following short videos monashhealth.org/careers.
About the Role
Join our Youth Services and Forensic Mental Health in Community Health team as a Grade 2 Occupational Therapist and make a meaningful difference in the lives of people across Melbourne’s south-east. This is a part-time (0.8 EFT), ongoing role based in Dandenong, working across our Youth Health Hubs and Forensic Mental Health programs, including services delivered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will provide psychosocial assessment, therapeutic intervention, care coordination and group programs. You’ll support young people aged 15–25 years, as well as adults with mild to moderate mental health needs who have mental health treatment requirements as part of a Corrections Order or parole.
Using evidence-based, trauma-informed and person-centred approaches, you’ll support people to improve their health, wellbeing and independence.
About the Program
Youth Services supports young people aged 15–25 years to improve their health literacy, manage their health and wellbeing, and reduce preventable chronic disease and avoidable hospital admissions.
The Forensic Mental Health in Community Health (FMHiCH) Team supports adults on Corrections Orders or parole who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health conditions. The team assists people to access appropriate healthcare, meet their mental health treatment requirements and reduce their risk of reoffending.
Both services sit within a broader multidisciplinary program alongside Sexual and Reproductive Health Services and Community Health Nursing. Our teams value collaboration, inclusion and trauma-informed care, working closely with families, community organisations and health services.
About You
You are a compassionate and motivated Occupational Therapist who enjoys working with people experiencing vulnerability, disadvantage or complex health needs. You bring a collaborative, strengths-based approach and are confident building therapeutic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) or equivalent
- Current general AHPRA registration as an Occupational Therapist, with no restrictions
- Strong assessment, therapeutic intervention and care coordination skills
- Group facilitation skills and the ability to engage people from diverse backgrounds, including refugee and CALD communities
- Current Victorian Driver Licence
Why Join Us
Build your Occupational Therapy career in a varied community-based role spanning youth health and forensic mental health. You’ll benefit from:
- A diverse and rewarding caseload across two areas of practice
- Regular professional supervision and a supportive multidisciplinary team
- Ongoing professional development and career opportunities
- Opportunities to supervise students and develop your clinical skills
- Salary packaging and employee wellbeing benefits, including Fitness Passport
- The opportunity to make a meaningful difference in your local community
For a confidential discussion and to explore this opportunity further, please reach out to Campbell Atkinson, Youth and Family Manager, on 0406751184 to discuss the role.
