Monash Health exists to reimagine care, so that people can live their best lives.
Start your Social Work career somewhere you can learn, grow and feel supported from day one. Join Monash Health’s Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program and spend your graduate year building your confidence, developing your clinical skills and discovering where a career in mental health can take you.
About the Role
We are excited to welcome applications from Graduate Social Workers for our 2027 Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program. Commencing in February 2027, this 12-month program provides the opportunity to gain experience across a range of mental health settings, supporting children, young people, adults and older adults across community and inpatient services.
Throughout your graduate year, you’ll develop the foundations of mental health practice, including assessment, formulation and therapeutic intervention, while building your confidence and professional identity as a Social Worker.
Importantly, you won’t be expected to figure it all out on your own.
You’ll be supported by a dedicated Social Work Clinical Educator, regular supervision and a structured learning program designed to help you develop both your Social Work practice and broader mental health knowledge and skills.
This is a graduate year designed for learning – giving you the support, experiences and opportunities to grow into the clinician you want to become.
About the Program
Monash Health’s Mental Health Program provides care across the lifespan, with services spanning infant, child and youth, adult and older adult mental health. Our services include inpatient, community and rehabilitation programs alongside specialist services, giving our graduates exposure to the breadth and diversity of mental health care.
The Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program is embedded within our mental health workforce and has been designed specifically to support clinicians at the beginning of their careers.
You’ll join a multidisciplinary graduate cohort that may include Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Exercise Physiologists, Dietitians, Music Therapists and Art Therapists – giving you the opportunity to learn not only from experienced clinicians, but with and from other graduates beginning their careers alongside you.
Want to find out more about our Graduate Program?
Join us for an upcoming information night to learn more about the Allied Health Mental Health Graduate Program. Register your interest here to receive the information night link.
About You
You’re an early-career Social Worker with a genuine interest in mental health and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of consumers, carers and families. You don’t need to have everything figured out yet. We’re looking for someone who is curious, compassionate and ready to learn.
You’ll bring:
- a genuine interest in developing your Social Work career in mental health
- curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and professional growth
- a commitment to person-centred, family-inclusive and evidence-based care
- an understanding of the social and psychosocial factors that can influence a person’s mental health, wellbeing and recovery
- a collaborative approach and willingness to learn from consumers, carers, families, lived experience and clinical colleagues
- compassion, empathy and respect for the individual experiences of the people you support
- a commitment to safe, ethical and high-quality practice.
You will be an early-career Social Worker with less than two years of professional experience and hold:
- Bachelor of Social Work or Masters Social Work Qualifying OR Master of Social Work, OR equivalent as assessed and approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Eligible for ordinary membership of AASW (http://www.aasw.asn.au/)
- Written evidence of eligibility for AASW membership for overseas qualifications
is required. - Accredited Social Worker and/or Accredited Mental Health Social Worker: As approved by the AASW
Why Join Us?
Your graduate year should be about more than getting through your first year – it should give you the foundations for the clinician you want to become. At Monash Health, we know that starting your career can be exciting, challenging and sometimes a little daunting. That’s why our graduate program surrounds you with support, learning and connection from the beginning.
You’ll have access to:
- Dedicated Social Work clinical education and support – helping you translate your university learning into confident clinical practice.
- Protected learning time – dedicated space to learn, reflect and develop without learning becoming something you need to squeeze in around everything else.
- Regular supervision – including fortnightly one-to-one clinical supervision, multidisciplinary group supervision and peer support.
- A graduate community around you – start your career alongside other allied health graduates who are learning, developing and navigating their first year too.
- Exposure to diverse areas of mental health – build experience across different age groups, settings and models of care while discovering the areas that interest you most.
- Learning from experienced clinicians and specialists – access professional development delivered by Allied Health Mental Health Educators and clinical experts.
- Discovery Days – explore different programs and areas of practice to help you think about where you’d like your career to take you next.
Most importantly, you’ll be joining a program that expects you to be a graduate. You’ll be supported to ask questions, build your confidence, develop your clinical identity and grow throughout the year.
Come as a graduate. Leave with the confidence, experience and connections to take the next step in your mental health career.
As a Monash Health employee, you’ll also have access to benefits including salary packaging, health and wellbeing initiatives, free vaccinations, discounted private health insurance and access to selected health services for you and your family.

Lead the Future of Nursing and Digital Health
St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne (SVHM), in partnership with Grampians Health, is delivering Victoria's first shared Electronic Medical Record (EMR) across metropolitan, regional and rural health services.
The YourEMR Program represents one of the most significant digital transformations ever undertaken in Victorian healthcare. Reporting to the Head of EMR Adoption at SVHM and maintaining professional accountability to the Chief Nursing Officer, the CNIO will serve as the principal nursing informatics leader throughout the YourEMR journey.
You will work closely with executive nursing leaders, clinicians and multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure nursing practice, patient safety and clinical excellence are reflected in the design, build and implementation of the new EMR.
As a trusted advisor and change leader, you will champion nursing engagement, drive clinical transformation and support the workforce to successfully transition to new ways of delivering care.

- Collaborating with medical, pharmacy and allied health informatics leaders to deliver integrated clinical solutions
- Providing expert advice on clinical risk identification and mitigation throughout implementation
- Supporting education, training and readiness activities for nursing teams
- Building strong relationships across clinical, executive and program stakeholder groups
About You
You are a highly respected nursing leader with a passion for digital health, innovation and improving patient outcomes.
You thrive in complex environments, bring others on the journey through influence and collaboration, and understand how technology can strengthen clinical practice and enhance patient care.
Essential Requirements
