Staff Site Reliability Engineer The Role
We're hiring a Staff SRE to own the reliability, security and scalability of Lyrebird's production platform. That covers our AWS infrastructure, deployment pipelines, observability, and how we detect and respond to incidents. You'll report to our Engineering Manager, Platform and Security, and work across every engineering team to make our services resilient and easy to operate. Clinicians use Lyrebird during patient consultations, so when the platform has a problem, they feel it straight away.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You'll still write the Terraform and dig into production issues yourself, but you'll also set the standards other engineers build to: how we define SLOs, how we ship code safely, and how teams run their own services without relying on the platform team for everything. It suits someone who has owned infrastructure end to end, stays steady making calls during an incident, and raises it early when something isn't safe.
About Us
Every day in Australia, 10 people die from preventable medical errors. Not from incurable diseases, but from misdiagnosis, missed information, and clinicians making decisions under impossible pressure. At the centre of that failure is a doctor spending 40% of their day on paperwork instead of patients. Lyrebird is fixing that.
We turn real clinical conversations into accurate notes, automatically, backed by ambient real time document creation, intelligent document management and clinical workflow automation, native patient data integrations across siloed health systems, and a patient and clinical communications layer. Thousands of clinicians across multiple disciplines use Lyrebird every day in environments where accuracy, safety, and time matter deeply. We're growing fast across Melbourne, the UK, and Asia, and there's a finite window right now to set the standard for clinical AI in Australia before anyone else does.
What you'll do
- Define the SLOs, alerting and observability strategy that show how the platform is really performing, and hold the line on availability and latency for the clinicians who depend on it
- Shape how we detect, respond to and learn from incidents, so customer-impacting issues become rarer and get resolved faster when they do happen
- Evolve our AWS and Terraform platform for resilience, scale and disaster recovery, staying ahead of our growth rather than catching up to it
- Make deployments safer and faster by setting the direction for our CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling
- Close security and compliance gaps by building controls and compliance automation into the platform, not bolting them on afterwards
- Raise operational maturity across engineering so teams can run their own services confidently, with far less manual support from platform
- Challenge technical decisions when reliability or security is at stake, and bring the evidence to back it up
What you'll bring
- Deep hands-on experience running production workloads on AWS with Terraform, containers and CI/CD, where getting it wrong had real consequences
- A strong grounding in networking, security and production troubleshooting, the kind that finds the root cause when the dashboards disagree
- A track record of designing observability, defining SLOs and leading incident response that measurably improved reliability
- The coding ability to automate operational work away rather than absorb it
- Evidence of influencing technical direction across multiple engineering teams without relying on authority
Nice to have
- Experience with ECS/Fargate, PostgreSQL, and distributed or asynchronous workloads
- Familiarity with TypeScript/Node.js and OpenTelemetry
- Exposure to healthcare technology or frameworks such as ISO 27001 or Cyber Essentials Plus
- Experience operating platforms across multiple regions
Clinicians use Lyrebird in the room with their patients, in moments where accuracy and attention matter most. The platform you build is what makes that dependable: when it simply works, a doctor gets to look up from the screen and back at the person in front of them. That's the standard you'll be holding, and it's one worth caring about.
We're building a team that reflects the diversity of the people who benefit from our work. We want Lyrebird to be a place where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. If you're from an underrepresented background in tech, we strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don't meet every requirement.

Concentric Health We're looking for someone based in Melbourne, though we'll consider strong candidates elsewhere in Australia.
Concentric is the UK's market-leading digital consent application, used by over 30,000 clinicians and supporting 40,000 patients each week. Now we're expanding internationally, and Australia is our next step. We're a small, friendly, clinically-led team working to make consent more transparent, empowering, and genuinely shared between clinician and patient.
Where are we in Australia?Over the past two years we've been building our presence in Australia, including a year with Patrick on the ground. We've learned that the product fits well, the clinical need is real, and early adopters across several states are sharing positive feedback. Patrick has written about that journey in Familiar, but not the same: lessons from Australia . If you're considering this role, please do read it - it's the best window into where we are.
We now have mature conversations with a small number of large healthcare organisations, including public hospital groups, in parallel with a steadily growing base of users in private consulting rooms. The next phase calls for clinical depth and local expertise that we don't yet have on the ground, which is the reason for this role.
We're hiring two people in Australia. This role will lead clinical engagement and help shape local clinical content and product priorities. We're also hiring an implementation and growth colleague to lead organisations through the journey from first evaluating Concentric to live deployment, alongside market development. You'll work as a pair, with deliberate overlap where implementation and clinical adoption meet.
Your roleAs one of our first two hires in Australia, you'll be bringing a proven product to a new market. Concentric already supports over 2 million patients each year at key moments in their care across the UK; your aim is to help build that same impact for patients and clinicians in Australia.
The heart of the role is clinical engagement. You'll be the clinical face of Concentric in Australia, and your credibility as a practising or recently practising clinician matters here: you'll be talking with peers, and your first-hand understanding of the consent conversation will carry weight.
You'll also use your clinical judgement to notice where Concentric fits naturally into Australian workflows, where it creates friction and what needs to change, turning those observations into clear input for our UK-based product and clinical content teams.
Over the first 12 months, success would mean at least one large healthcare organisation live and building sustained clinical use, alongside growing momentum in private consulting rooms. Your contribution will be to build the clinical trust, local fit and day-to-day adoption that make that possible.
Australia is the market we've deliberately chosen for our first move beyond the UK and Ireland, and the founders are committed to making it a success. You'll work directly with them on how Concentric should operate clinically in Australia and how we build a lasting local presence.
You'll also work regularly with colleagues across clinical content, operations, and product in the UK, often asynchronously, with regular virtual catch-ups alongside in-person visits from the broader team. You and your implementation colleague will be the only team members on the ground in Australia, so you'll need to be comfortable working independently and making confident, informed decisions, especially outside UK working hours.
Your focus- Clinical engagement: Running engagement sessions with clinical audiences, both within and outside the context of a deployment; supporting clinicians through their initial use of Concentric; and developing clinical champions at each site.
- Supporting adoption: Working with the implementation and growth lead to support rollout and sustained clinical use, and helping ensure the onboarding experience works well for clinicians.
- Product and workflow insight: Turning what you see in clinical use, alongside feedback from Australian users, into clear, practical input for our product and content teams on what should be adapted for the local context.
- Clinical content localisation: Leading work with clinicians at our sites where content or terminology needs to reflect Australian clinical practice, and feeding insights back to the UK clinical content team.
- Clinical user support: Helping clinicians resolve questions and use Concentric confidently, then identifying recurring themes that could improve the product, content, or support we provide.
You're a clinician with the breadth and curiosity to engage confidently across clinical areas, and a genuine interest in how Concentric can be made to work well for Australian clinicians and patients. What matters most is clinical credibility, sound judgement, and clear communication. We're looking for someone who:
- Has a clinical background, with broad clinical understanding and the confidence to engage with topics outside their own core experience.
- Builds trust easily with clinical peers and is comfortable running demonstrations and supporting colleagues through change.
- Has excellent written and presentation skills, with a mature sense of how to communicate effectively with different audiences.
- Has strong product instincts, a feel for what works clinically and what doesn't, and the comfort to get into the detail of content, terminology, and practice when it matters.
- Is happy working independently within a small, remote team in a role with variety and some ambiguity, and is aligned with our core values of quality, conviction, and openness and our mission to improve consent and shared decision making in healthcare.
- Is willing to travel across Australia to attend clinical site visits, demonstrations, and events as required.
- Has the right to live and work in Australia.
- $160,000 full-time-equivalent base salary, plus superannuation. Pro-rata for part-time arrangements.
- Available full-time or part-time, with a minimum commitment of 0.5 FTE.
- We're looking for someone based in Melbourne, though we'll consider strong candidates elsewhere in Australia. Co working space costs will be covered if needed, and we'll pay for any equipment you need to do your job.
- 20 days of annual leave (pro rata for part-time), plus all local public holidays.
- Personal development budget, with support to attend the courses and events that help you grow professionally.

Company Operating Rhythm At Deepgram, we expect an AI-first mindset-AI use and comfort aren't optional, they're core to how we operate, innovate, and measure performance.
Every team member who works at Deepgram is expected to actively use and experiment with advanced AI tools, and even build your own into your everyday work. We measure how effectively AI is applied to deliver results, and consistent, creative use of the latest AI capabilities is key to success here. Candidates should be comfortable adopting new models and modes quickly, integrating AI into their workflows, and continuously pushing the boundaries of what these technologies can do.
Additionally, we move at the pace of AI. Change is rapid, and you can expect your day-to-day work to evolve just as quickly. This may not be the right role if you're not excited to experiment, adapt, think on your feet, and learn constantly, or if you're seeking something highly prescriptive with a traditional 9-to-5.
The Opportunity Voice is the most natural modality for human interaction with machines. However, current sequence modeling paradigms based on jointly scaling model and data cannot deliver voice AI capable of universal human interaction. The challenges are rooted in fundamental data problems posed by audio: real-world audio data is scarce and enormously diverse, spanning a vast space of voices, speaking styles, and acoustic conditions. Even if billions of hours of audio were accessible, its inherent high dimensionality creates computational and storage costs that make training and deployment prohibitively expensive at world scale. We believe that entirely new paradigms for audio AI are needed to overcome these challenges and make voice interaction accessible to everyone.
The Role As a Member of the Research Staff, you will pioneer the development of Latent Space Models (LSMs), a new approach that aims to solve the fundamental data, scale, and cost challenges associated with building robust, contextualized voice AI. Your research will focus on solving one or more of the following problems:
- Build next-generation neural audio codecs that achieve extreme, low bit-rate compression and high fidelity reconstruction across a world-scale corpus of general audio.
- Pioneer steerable generative models that can synthesize the full diversity of human speech from the codec latent representation, from casual conversation to highly emotional expression to complex multi-speaker scenarios with environmental noise and overlapping speech.
- Develop embedding systems that cleanly factorize the codec latent space into interpretable dimensions of speaker, content, style, environment, and channel effects enabling precise control over each aspect and the ability to massively amplify an existing seed dataset through "latent recombination".
- Leverage latent recombination to generate synthetic audio data at previously impossible scales, unlocking joint model and data scaling paradigms for audio. Endeavor to train multimodal speech-to-speech systems that can 1) understand any human irrespective of their demographics, state, or environment and 2) produce empathic, human-like responses that achieve conversational or task-oriented objectives.
- Design model architectures, training schemes, and inference algorithms that are adapted for hardware at the bare metal enabling cost efficient training on billion-hour datasets and powering real-time inference for hundreds of millions of concurrent conversations.
- See "unsolved" problems as opportunities to pioneer entirely new approaches
- Can identify the one critical experiment that will validate or kill an idea in days, not months
- Have the vision to scale successful proofs-of-concept 100x
- Are obsessed with using AI to automate and amplify your own impact
It's Important to Us That You Have
- Strong mathematical foundation in statistical learning theory, particularly in areas relevant to self-supervised and multimodal learning
- Deep expertise in foundation model architectures, with an understanding of how to scale training across multiple modalities
- Proven ability to bridge theory and practice-someone who can both derive novel mathematical formulations and implement them efficiently
- Demonstrated ability to build data pipelines that can process and curate massive datasets while maintaining quality and diversity
- Track record of designing controlled experiments that isolate the impact of architectural innovations and validate theoretical insights
- Experience optimizing models for real-world deployment, including knowledge of hardware constraints and efficiency techniques
- History of open-source contributions or research publications that have advanced the state of the art in speech/language AI
1. Statistical & Mathematical Foundations Mastery of Core Concepts
Many papers, like Scaling Laws for Neural Language Models and Neural Discrete Representation Learning (VQ-VAE), reflect the importance of power-law analyses, derivation of novel losses, or adaptation of fundamental equations (e.g., in VQ-VAE's commitment loss or rectified flows in Scaling Rectified Flow Transformers). Such mathematical grounding clarifies why models converge or suffer collapse.
Combining Existing Theories in Novel Ways
Papers such as Moshi (combining text modeling, audio codecs, and hierarchical generative modeling) and Finite Scalar Quantization (FSQ's adaptation of classic scalar quantization to replace vector-quantized representations) show how reusing but reimagining known techniques can yield breakthroughs. Many references (e.g., the structured state-space duality in Transformers are SSMs) underscore how unifying previously separate research lines can reveal powerful algorithmic or theoretical insights.
Logical Reasoning and Assumption Testing
Across all papers-particularly in the problem statements of Whisper or Rectified Flow Transformers-the authors present assumptions (e.g., "scaling data leads to zero-shot robustness" or "straight-line noise injection improves sample efficiency") and systematically verify them with thorough empirical results. An ideal researcher similarly grounds new ideas in well-formed, testable hypotheses.
2. Algorithmic Innovation & Implementation Creative Solutions to Known Bottlenecks
Each paper puts forth a unique algorithmic contribution-Rectified Flow Transformers redefines standard diffusion paths, FSQ proposes simpler scalar quantizations contrasted with VQ, phi-3 mini relies on curated data and blocksparse attention, and Mamba-2 merges SSM speed with attention concepts.
Turning Theory into Practice
Whether it's the direct preference optimization (DPO) for alignment in phi-3 or the residual vector quantization in SoundStream, these works show that bridging design insights with implementable prototypes is essential.
Clear Impact Through Prototypes & Open-Source
Many references (Whisper, neural discrete representation learning, Mamba-2) highlight releasing code or pretrained models, enabling the broader community to replicate and build upon new methods. This premise of collaboration fosters faster progress.
3. Data-Driven & Scalable Systems Emphasis on Large-Scale Data and Efficient Pipelines
Papers such as Robust Speech Recognition via Large-Scale Weak Supervision (Whisper) and BASE TTS demonstrate that collecting and processing hundreds of thousands of hours of real-world audio can unlock new capabilities in zero-shot or low-resource domains. Meanwhile, phi-3 Technical Report shows that filtering and curating data at scale (e.g., "data optimal regime") can yield high performance even in smaller models.
