The role - Te mahi

The University is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Senior Professional Practice Fellows in Dentistry.

As a Senior Professional Practice Fellow, you will help support teaching, facilitate learning, assist with assessments, and carry out clinical service/clinical activity both on undergraduate clinics and staff clinics out of term time.

Some key tasks of the role include:

• Clinical teaching/tutoring of undergraduate dentists.

• Contributing to the Department’s academic goals by applying expert clinical knowledge in your area of specialty.

• Preparation, assessment, teaching, and paper administration duties.

• Following through patient care and referrals within the hospital.

Successful applicants:

• Must hold a dental degree and have registration or be eligible for full registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand.

• Will demonstrate the ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds and at all levels within the institution.

• Show a commitment to uphold the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the University’s Māori Strategic Framework.

We have eight job openings, offering both permanent and fixed-term positions, located in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

We have opportunities for Dentists with special interests in Endodontics, Prosthodontics, and Periodontics.

Both full-time (1 FTE) and part-time positions are available, allowing for employment over the full year or semester time only. The duration of any fixed-term positions can be negotiable with the successful candidates. International candidates would need to be available to work minimum 0.8 FTE.

The salary range for these positions is $109,554 to $184,993 per annum (pro rata). Candidates will be appointed to a step on the Senior Professional Practice Fellow scale 3 or 4, dependent on qualifications and skills.

We are seeking 2x experienced Sonographers to join the Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging as Professional Teaching Fellows, contributing to the development and delivery of a new Postgraduate Certificate in Health Science (Point of Care Ultrasound - POCUS), planned to commence in 2027.

This role offers an opportunity to work alongside clinicians and academic staff to help establish a clinically relevant, educationally robust postgraduate programme. Following programme implementation, you will contribute to ongoing teaching delivery, learner supervision, assessment, and continuous improvement as the programme grows.

Ngā kawenga matua - Key responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and establishment of the Postgraduate Certificate in POCUS, including curriculum structure, learning outcomes, teaching materials and assessment frameworks

• Deliver teaching across lectures, workshops and clinical learning contexts, including in-person ultrasound workshops held two to three times per year

• Facilitate hands-on ultrasound training and support learners to translate POCUS skills into clinical practice

• Provide longitudinal learner supervision through remote review of ultrasound scans

• Support learners to overcome practical barriers to implementing POCUS in their workplace settings

• Contribute to assessment activities, including marking, moderation and participation in final in-person assessments

• Maintain active clinical engagement to ensure teaching reflects current best practice in ultrasound and POCUS

These are part-time (14h per week), fixed-term (24 months) roles.

The salary range for this role is $105,791 - $139,199 (pro-rated) based on skills and experience.

You are a clinically credible sonographer who is passionate about education and supporting adult learners in workplace-based clinical environments. You enjoy working collaboratively with clinicians and academic colleagues and are motivated by the opportunity to help shape a new postgraduate programme from its early stages.

You bring strong communication and organisational skills, a learner-centred teaching approach, and a commitment to high-quality, equitable and culturally responsive education.

You will also bring:

• A Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science (Ultrasound) with current registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Radiation Technologists Board

• A minimum of five years' experience as a qualified sonographer

• Demonstrated experience applying POCUS in relevant clinical settings

• Experience teaching, supervising or training healthcare professionals, including hands-on or workshop-based ultrasound education

• Strong facilitation, interpersonal and time-management skills

• A commitment to maintaining active clinical practice alongside teaching

The Position

Skilled Medical is seeking an Intensive Care (ICU) Registrar to join the Intensive Care Unit at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital commencing on 2 March or 3 August 2026.

Health Service

This ICU is accredited as a C12 unit under the CICM training program, with endorsements for General, Rural, and Paediatric training. They actively support CICM candidates, helping them prepare for Part 1 and Part 2 exams, and have a history of trainees successfully completing their CICM research projects during their time in the department. Non-training registrars have also published research projects in peer-reviewed journals. All registrars have the chance to get involved in quality improvement and research initiatives, contributing to the ongoing advancement of our department.

The successful candidate would join a team of 12-14 Registrars and a diverse group of nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals. The ICU provides critical care for both adult and paediatric patients, managing complex cases and transporting patients within Hawkes Bay and to tertiary referral centres. You'll have opportunities to be involved in rotary wing and road transfers.

Hawkes Bay Hospital is a 400-bed secondary-level public hospital in Hastings, serving a population of over 180,000 people. They offer both acute and elective care across a wide range of medical and surgical specialties, including paediatrics, obstetrics & gynaecology, and more. Although they don't provide cardiothoracic and neurosurgery, they are supported by a strong regional ICU team, ensuring comprehensive care for a diverse patient population.
