What you'll be doing
We are seeking a high-quality, dedicated and enthusiastic Advanced Trainee to join the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Paediatric Department and Youth Drug Health Service. This innovative 12-month position combines six months of accredited Advanced Training in General Paediatrics and six months in Adolescent Addiction Medicine, providing a unique opportunity to develop expertise across both acute paediatric care and adolescent health. The position is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for six months of General Paediatrics Advanced Training and six months of Community and Child Health/non-core Paediatric Advanced Training.
The primary function of this position is to provide high-quality, evidence-based clinical care under supervision to children and adolescents requiring inpatient, ambulatory and community-based medical services. During the General Paediatrics term, the trainee will gain broad exposure to acute and chronic paediatric conditions through inpatient, outpatient and virtual models of care. During the Adolescent Addiction Medicine term, the trainee will develop clinical, research and multidisciplinary expertise in the assessment and management of young people presenting with substance use disorders and associated medical, developmental and psychosocial complexities, including withdrawal management and relapse prevention.
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and one of Australia's leading tertiary hospitals. The Department of Paediatrics provides a comprehensive range of services, including a busy inpatient ward, Hospital in the Home program, acute review clinics, general paediatric outpatient services, medical support to the Parent Baby Unit and RPAVirtual, Australia's first virtual hospital. The Youth Drug Health Service delivers specialist multidisciplinary care for adolescents with substance use and related health concerns, providing trainees with valuable experience in integrated models of adolescent healthcare.
The position offers an exceptional training experience with a strong focus on clinical excellence, innovation, quality improvement, research, teaching and mentorship. Trainees participate in a comprehensive education program, have access to a range of subspecialty learning opportunities and contribute to the supervision and education of University of Sydney medical students.

Westmead Hospital is also the principal referral centre for other metropolitan hospitals within the district including Auburn Hospital, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital.
The Westmead Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is the largest in NSW with 24 intensive care beds and 20 special care beds. The department admits over 1,500 newborns per year of which approximately 450 require airway support and 150 are born at less than 32 weeks gestation. The NICU has a strong relationship with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine team and the University of Sydney. Westmead Hospital delivers newborns who have complex surgical and cardiac conditions who are transferred to the co-located Children’s Hospital at Westmead for subspecialist treatment after initial stabilisation. Westmead Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit also receives ex-utero neonatal transfers from across NSW and within the district. The department is very active in teaching, clinical practice improvement and research. Westmead NICU offers comprehensive supervised training in clinician performed neonatal ultrasound to interested candidates. The department provides training in neurodevelopmental follow-up to high risk NICU graduates in a multidisciplinary clinic, up to the age of 5 years.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Provisional Fellow - Neonatology
· Participate in the supervision of Neonatal Trainees as they provide all aspects of care for infants within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Nursery and Maternity Ward under the supervision of the Staff Specialists.
· Undertake clinical responsibilities on a rotational basis across NICU, SCN, Growth and Development Clinic and other outpatient clinics such as short term follow-up of recently discharged patients and antenatal consultations for women with expected high risk delivery.
· Attend ward rounds ensuring at least daily entries in the electronic medical notes are completed. In the NICU, a Staff Specialist and Fellow will usually undertake twice daily ward rounds with medical and nursing staff and a once daily round in the SCN.
· Provide and supervise clinical care including admission, physical examination, performance of clinical procedures, formulation of investigation and management plan, review of progress, and completion and checking of discharge summaries
· Perform technical procedures including basic and advanced neonatal resuscitation, intravenous cannulation, insertion of peripheral arterial lines, lumbar puncture, suprapubic aspiration of urine, endotracheal intubation, and insertion of chest drains.
· Develop competency in exchange transfusion, insertion of umbilical lines, and insertion of peripherally inserted central catheters.
· Participate in the first on call roster. A Provisional Fellow or Senior Registrar is usually first on call for clinical advice and emergency call back, with a Staff Specialist second on call and available. Rostered shifts are required when first on call for weekends, and rostered evening shifts may be required to meet service needs.
· Attend outpatient consultations in department clinics and complete follow-up report writing under the supervision of a Staff Specialist
· Participate in the implementation of new practices aimed at improving the quality of care provided within the department, including the development of new guidelines according to best evidence
· Participate actively in quality improvement, morbidity and mortality review, and peer review activities within the hospital.
· Participate actively in clinical or laboratory research relevant to the department and neonatal medicine
· Participate and assist in the planning and delivery of appropriate education and training in neonatal medicine, including information sessions for parents.

Undertaking of 0.5 FTE clinical and 0.5 FTE non-clinical administrative, educational, research, and clinical governance responsibilities.
The General Medical service cares for inpatients with complex medical and social issues. The AT will gain experience in a wide range of areas including infectious diseases, endocrinology, rheumatology, cardiology, respiratory medicine, geriatrics and rehabilitation medicine, pain (acute and chronic), toxicology, drug and alcohol medicine, mental health including eating disorders, palliative care, and the management of patients with multisystem disorders and undifferentiated presentations.
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the trainee's skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate consultant. What you'll be doing

The Role
This is an exciting opportunity for an unaccredited Cardiology registrar position, working in a supportive, structured teaching environment to support progression to entering advanced training.
You will be part of a collegiate team of 7 Cardiologists and 3 specialist Cardiology registrars supported by junior medical officers working across a 7-day roster. You will have access to weekly education sessions and mentorship from consultants with an open-door policy to assist in developing your clinical proficiency.
The Cardiology service is rapidly evolving. Our cardiac catheterisation laboratory opened in late 2024. Service enhancements anticipated for 2026 include primary PCI capability and multi-modality cardiac imaging. We have strong links to the Gold Coast University Hospital for cardiac surgery and advanced cardiac electrophysiology.

Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Cumberland, Parramatta and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the largest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary, and integrated centre that will continue to deliver high quality healthcare and expand the education, health, and research capability of the area.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisation in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry, providing services in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Kidney and Pancreas transplantation, Cancer Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Trauma, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Critical Care, Aged Care and Rehabilitation, Adult Acute Psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other specialised medical and surgical services.
Westmead Hospital is also the principal referral centre for other metropolitan hospitals within the district including Auburn Hospital, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospital.
The Geriatric Medicine Department at Westmead Hospital provides a range of emergency, inpatient and outpatient services for patients who are 70 years or above presenting with wide range of clinical conditions usually on a background of multiple medical comorbidities and psychosocial issues. Comprehensive geriatric assessments are conducted by multidisciplinary teams in acute, subacute, community and residential aged care settings. HOPE which stands for Healthcare for Older Persons Earlier is a geriatric admissions and short-stay unit that provides acute assessment of elderly patients presenting to emergency. There are also dedicated services for stroke, falls and syncope, cognitive disorders, rehabilitation, orthogeriatrics, elderly trauma, perioperative care and aged care psychiatry. The department provides 24/7 assessment, intravenous thrombolysis and intra-arterial clot retrieval treatment to acute stroke presentations. Stroke patients are provided multidisciplinary care within the specialized acute stroke unit.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Advanced Trainee, Geriatrics - Westmead Hospital
- Trainees will be responsible for day to day patient care and for maintaining close liaison with the attending consultant medical officer. Patients will be managed in the various inpatient, outpatient and community- based programmes that offer interdisciplinary care. Patient assessments will be conducted face-to-face as well as via telehealth and documented using electronic medical records. Trainees will work collaboratively with allied health clinicians. Trainees will participate in multidisciplinary case conferences, family meetings and NCAT guardianship hearings.
- This position offers exposure to acute stroke medicine. There will be opportunity to work in the acute stroke unit, in stroke rehabilitation and attend weekly stroke education meetings. Trainees will participate in the afterhours stroke oncall roster. This role involves assessment of patients presenting with suspected stroke, review of cerebral imaging studies, administration of intravenous thrombolysis and coordination of intra-arterial clot retrieval procedures provided by interventional neuroradiologists. Supervision and formal training will be provided by consultant geriatricians and neurologists.
- Trainees also have the opportunity to undertake a term in psychogeriatrics in both inpatient and outpatient settings under the supervision of psychogeriatricians.
- Trainees will participate in teaching programs and quality improvement activities of the Geriatrics Medicine Department and the Division of Medicine. They will also provide education and supervision to medical students and junior medical officers.
- Trainees afterhours responsibilities include stroke oncall, ward medical registrar duty, weekend geriatrics wardrounds and evening ED admitting geriatric registrar (HOPE-ED) shifts.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Sufficient clinical experience in order to undertake the clinical duties of the role in a variety of clinical settings and proficiency in basic and advanced life support. This includes completion of at least four postgraduate years and successful completion of the examination requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and be eligible to undertake subspecialty training in Geriatric Medicine in Australia. Candidates who have completed FRACP part 1 (Written exam) and working towards completion of CRACP part 2 (clinical exam) will be considered for unaccredited advanced training
- Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care.

At Nepean Hospital there is a dedicated team responsible for management of all patients with acute surgical conditions within the hospital itself as well as the neighbouring hospitals with the NBMLHD, known as the Acute Surgical Unit. ASU is an independent unit that manages all acute surgical admissions including trauma and is led by an on-site ASU Consultant during daylight hours and on-call overnight, responsible for management of all patients with acute surgical conditions.
Nepean Hospital is one of the two Alma Mater Hospitals of the RACS Western Sydney Network with SET Trainees rotations to other hospitals within NSW. As an Unaccredited Trainee within the Network the JMO may be required to work at the different facilities and locations with the NSW public health system as a reliever for RACS SET trainees within the RACS Western Sydney Surgical Training Network. These Hospitals include: Nepean, Blacktown, Mount Druitt, Westmead, Norwest, Orange, Dubbo, Bathurst, and Hawkesbury.
We are planning to make a 6-month regional rotation in general surgery to Moruya Hospital as part of the terms offered for the Trainee Unaccredited position. Moruya is a hospital with 4 general surgeons, providing care on the picturesque south coast of NSW, and is a fantastic opportunity to broaden our Trainee’s exposure to rural surgery. Accommodation and travel allowance will be provided.

What you'll be doing
- Taking a leadership role in coordinating the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in the Unit, and ensuring that the admission and plans are documented in the medical record.
- Coordinating and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to his/her Unit within the public health organisation.
- Day-to-day assessment and management of the patients in the Unit under supervision of the consultant in charge/fellow.
- Communicating and coordinating care with their team, arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate, arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and other community based care modalities.
- Participating in the afterhours and relief roster.
Where you'll be working
- Unaccredited Trainees in General Surgery will work in the Acute Surgical Unit, and/or attached to an elective General Surgery Unit at Nepean Hospital, Elective Surgical Unit at Blue Mountains Hospital or Elective or Emergency Surgical Care at Hawkesbury Hospital.
- All terms will be three months and each trainee will rotate. A minimum of 26 weeks of general surgery will be allocated. There will be an opportunity to rotate to an ICU term. There will also be an opportunity to spend a term working with the Thoracic Surgery Unit at Nepean Hospital.
- Nepean Hospital has its own night surgical trainees. These trainees are on-ground, working 1900-0700 shifts 7 days on - 7 days off. Unaccredited Trainees working within the ASU will be rostered at some time for both in-hours shifts and after-hours shifts rotating as the night surgical trainee.

Essential requirements
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
- At least three years' postgraduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).

The Role

About the role
The Manning Base Hospital Unaccredited Trainee Medical Officer programme offers interested and committed UATs interested in future rural practice the opportunity to develop knowledge, skills and gain experience in Critical Care, Anaesthesia and Acute Medicine. This program seeks to develop practitioners experienced with critical care skills, even though they may wish to subsequently train in different specialties, including Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthetics.
Upon completion of the Critical Care UAT role doctors will be well prepared to apply for trainee positions or further training in Medicine, Intensive Care, Emergency Medicine or Anaesthetics and will also have acquired many transferable skills that will be useful in other training programs. This role is also highly relevant to those wanting to be an acute generalist (e.g. ACCRM RACGP-Rural).
A structured programme with rotations in Anaesthesia (minimum of 2 terms) and other relevant Critical Care specialties (e.g. ED / Acute Medicine / General Medicine / Intensive Care) within a 12 month period.
Medical Officers must be a PGY4 at the commencement of this role to be eligible.
Participation in relief / nights are expected on an equitable basis.

What you'll be doing
The Intensive Care Trainee will work under the supervision of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat patients with severe medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric illness. This may include the management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside the intensive care unit as well as the intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients.
This position may suit a trainee with relatively little experience (PGY3) to more experienced trainees (pre-fellowship). The experienced trainees may already have post graduate qualifications in critical care, Anaesthesia or Emergency Medicine. More experienced Trainees might be competent with invasive lines, intubation, ventilator support and managing critically ill patients with multi-organ failure.
The Trainee will participate in a rotating roster of days, evenings, nights and weekends and may rotate to Anaesthetics and / or Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital (which meets the CICM training requirement for rural Intensive Care). This position is accredited for ICU training by the CICM.

LBH supports the education and career progression of its Junior Medical Officers through:
- Education: Lismore ED offers weekly education sessions including simulation, clinical skills, case reviews, and buddy shifts with FACEM. SRMOs are supported by EMET Lismore Hub providing access to multiple workshops including paediatric emergencies, procedural skills, ultrasound and airway management. The Anaesthetics Department is an ANZCA accredited training site which offers weekly teaching for its JMOs including formal training, teleconferenced tutorials and monthly simulation sessions held at the simulation centre at UCRH or in theatre.
- Career Progression: Following your SRMO year, Lismore Base Hospital offers Intensive Care Training, or Emergency Medicine Training with opportunities to undertake 24 months accredited time across training stages 1 to 3, and training stage 4 at LBH ED, plus opportunities to rotate to ACEM accredited terms in Retrieval, Anaesthetics, ICU, Medical Education and Ultrasound. For JMOs accepted onto Anaesthetics Training Programs, we also receive rotational medical officers on the QARTS and John Hunter Hospital training programs.
Where you'll be working
Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
The hospital is an acute regional referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy 32 bed Emergency Department (40,000 presentations annually), ICU (9 beds) and Coronary Care Unit, as well as Surgery (general, orthopaedic and speciality surgery) with 8 theatres, 2 endoscopy theatres and 3 recovery areas, Paediatrics, Mental Health, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
LBH ED also supports Richmond Network hospitals including Ballina District Hospital (18,000 presentations per annum) and Casino Memorial District Hospital (14,000 presentations per annum), and Multipurpose Centres located at Kyogle, Nimbin, Urbenville and Bonalbo.
Grafton Base Hospital is a rural community hospital providing a wide range of accessible healthcare to the public.
LBH is an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from the University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney and Bond University. The hospital has a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior Medical Officers.
Our region encompasses World Heritage listed rainforests and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay. This area is blessed by year-round sun, a tropical climate and a short winter. From lush hinterland villages to Mount Warning, national parks, and sparkling beaches, the region is full of natural wonders and vibrant destinations all within a short drive from Lismore.

Canterbury Hospital is seeking an Unaccredited Trainee in Cardiology to join our medical team for the 2027 clinical year. This opportunity will support training doctors to meet the needs of the Canterbury patient population whilst developing expertise in a complex clinical environment.
Where you'll be working
Canterbury hospital is a 215-bed metropolitan acute general hospital in the Sydney Local Health District providing services in Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, General Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care. The facility is also undergoing a $350M redevelopment for expansion of acute clinical services planned in 2027. The Canterbury area is home to a culturally and linguistically diverse community catering to patients with complex health problems and limited access to health care. Canterbury Hospital therefore offers a unique opportunity for doctors in training to develop hands-on clinical experience whilst learning in a supervised environment.
What you'll be doing
The Unaccredited Trainee in Cardiology will provide effective clinical management of inpatients and outpatients of Canterbury Hospital, working under the supervision of consultant cardiologists to ensure quality health care for the local community, while developing expertise in Cardiology in a complex clinical environment.
The trainee will assist to manage common acute and chronic cardiac issues such as NSTEACS, acute arrhythmias and heart failure. The trainee will also contribute to performing, interpreting and reporting non-invasive cardiac investigations such as transthoracic echocardiography, stress echocardiography (and stress ECGs) and Holter monitoring. The trainee will play a key role in the Heart Failure Clinic. They will be involved in the assessment and ongoing management of a diverse range of heart failure patients, including those with newly diagnosed cardiomyopathies, myocarditis, and cardiac amyloidosis. There will be opportunity to contribute to clinical research projects through the rotation, along with opportunities for exposure to cardiac genetic testing, cardiac MRI interpretation, and the management of complex cardiomyopathies under supervision.
The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures, maintaining adequate medical records, organising and interpreting appropriate investigations. They will work under the supervision of Cardiologists and will be expected to have advanced communication skills, including escalating matters of concern in a timely manner, according to the clinical urgency.

The NCIRS Director is the senior leadership position responsible for providing all scientific, strategic, financial and operational performance direction and oversight for the Centre. The Director provides national leadership in assessing and advising on the risks from and control of vaccine-preventable diseases to a diverse array of key stakeholders and funders. Together with the NCIRS executive leadership team, the Director is responsible for ensuring the delivery of NCIRS work under its strategic objectives to ensure nationally and internationally significant research, surveillance, policy support and advisory functions on the use of vaccines in Australia and globally.
The Director fosters ongoing strategic relationships with government agencies, funding bodies, universities, international multi-lateral organisations and other key partners. The role ensures optimal organisational performance, strengthens strategic partnerships and support the long-term sustainability and national and international impact of NCIRS, leveraging upon and furthering the skills of the Centre’s multi-disciplinary team of over 120 individuals. A conjoint academic appointment/s at affiliated Universities of SCHN is supported and potential for clinical appointment (subject to qualifications) exists. On-call duties occur, in the form of NCIRS national and international engagements, as does leadership of and participation in review and improvement activities, as well as training and education of staff.
