Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. Westmead Hospital provides approximately 638 acute overnight, 30 day only and 52 subacute beds. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the biggest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary and integrated centre that will continue to deliver high quality healthcare and expand the education, health and research capability of the area
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisations in all fields of medicine and dentistry, providing services in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, kidney and pancreas transplantation, cancer care, obstetrics and gynaecology, neonatal intensive care, trauma, bone marrow transplantation, critical care, aged care and rehabilitation, adult acute psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other highly specialised medical and surgical services.
The Westmead Hospital Emergency Department (ED) operates 24 hours, 7 days per week and manages all types and levels of illnesses and injuries. As one of six major trauma centres in the state, the ED also cares for people with the most severe physical injuries.
Westmead Hospital ED presentation numbers are among the highest in the state
Critical care services within Westmead Hospital are provided by the Intensive care unit and the medical and surgical high dependency units. Other specialist services that provide a high dependency level of care for patients within their clinical specialty wards include the Coronary Care Unit, Renal and Pancreas Transplantation and Haematology
Over 120 different outpatient clinics for a number of different specialities and services provide ambulatory care to approximately 5,000 attendances per month.
Westmead Hospital is one of Australia’s largest centres for postgraduate training to specialist levels in all fields with over 100 PhD students and other postgraduate students supervised by Westmead Hospital scientists and clinicians. Westmead is home to internationally recognised institutes of health research, the most prominent being the Westmead Millennium Institute. The Westmead Millennium Institute is one of the largest medical research institutes in Australia, conducting research into a wide range of human disorders affecting both adults and children, including infectious and immune diseases, cancer and leukaemia, liver and metabolic diseases, eye and brain related disorders and heart and respiratory disorders.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - JMO - Unaccredited Trainee - Orthpaedics - Westmead Hospital
The Orthopaedic Trainee will be undertaking postgraduate specialty training and will have a commitment to progressing this training. The Trainee will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to the Trainee’s experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO).
The Orthopaedic Trainee is responsible for the initial assessment of patients and ongoing day-to-day management under the direction of the appropriate attending medical officer who has legal responsibility for the patient. The Orthopaedic Trainee has a responsibility for ensuring appropriate communication and documentation takes place, including collection of appropriate Morbidity and Mortality data as well as a responsibility for the training and supervision of junior medical staff.
The Orthopaedic Trainee is responsible for the organisation of the clinical team, will contribute to the Departmental Administration and has the responsibility of appropriately delegating clinical and administrative duties to the junior member of the staff.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Completed Three Post Graduate years. Previous Australian experience as an Orthopaedic SRMO or Trainee is required. Successful completion of term requirements for application to advanced training with the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
- Demonstrate excellent clinical skills and judgment.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Demonstrated commitment towards progression along the pathway to the SET programme.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to quality improvement.
- Sound computer skills

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of an Advanced Trainee in Emergency Hospital in the Home (EHITH) Service is to provide high quality medical care under appropriate supervision to undifferentiated frail older and disabled younger patients at home. Trainees undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with their colleagues when appropriate. Advanced Trainees work under a level of supervision according to their competence in the following activities:
- Taking a leadership role in coordinating the admission, assessment, management, and discharge planning of patients seen in their own homes
- Communicating assessment and management decisions to other staff including extended care paramedics, nurses and allied health practitioners involved in the patient's care.
- Communicating with the patient / family regarding the patient's condition and management plans
- Coordinating diagnostic tests and consultations with other medical specialists and other services as needed
- Arranging the patient discharge process and liaising with general practitioners, the patient’s specialists and community based care modalities for optimal post discharge care.

What you will be doing:
This position is open to qualified Advanced trainees in Geriatrics to practice under the supervision and direction of Specialist Geriatricians to assess and medically manage a comprehensive range of illnesses and disorders related to aged care.
The SLHD Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training Network offers you a comprehensive and well established Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training Program, with experienced supervisors, a wide range of formal education programs, a track record and resources for the completion of substantive projects.
Our reputation is second to none with clinical rotations allocated according to your experience, interest and training needs. The final allocation would also take into account the service needs across the SLHD Geriatric Medicine network training sites.
There is opportunity for you to rotate through subspecialty training modules including orthogeriatrics, cognitive disorder clinics, surgical liaison service, psychogeriatrics, as well as a variety of community based Geriatric service initiatives.
The duration of the position is for one full year (twelve months), though many trainees would reapply in subsequent clinical years to continue their advanced training in the network to take full advantage of the training opportunities.
The SLHD Geriatric Medicine Training Network
All network rotation sites are part of the Sydney Local Health District. Sites for our Network rotations include: Concord Repatriation General Hospital, The Canterbury Hospital, Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Balmain Aged Care Departments. All positions will participate in rotations allocated across the training network. Each rotation is approximately of 3 months duration.
The SLHD Geriatric Medicine Training Network encompasses the Aged Care departments and facilities of the Sydney Local Health District, covering the Sydney and Inner West Local Government Areas of Ashfield, Burwood, Canterbury, Canada Bay, Leichhardt, Marrickville, Strathfield, and part of the City of Sydney.
This training network is accredited for three years of Geriatric Medicine Advanced Training by the RACP Geriatric Specialist Training Committee in recognition of the training opportunities available.
Where you will be working:
You will be based at one of the SLHD hospitals for each rotation. SLHD hospitals include Concord Repatriation General Hospital, The Canterbury Hospital and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. What you'll be doing

What you'll be doing
The Medical Oncology Advanced Trainee will be in an accredited Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) training program within the Medical Oncology Department in a network of hospitals, or an individual hospital. The Advanced Trainee will be assigned to the Medical Oncology Department for the specified term and will undertake specific tasks and responsibilities at that Hospital. The Advanced Trainee will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise junior medical officers (JMOs) and medical students. It is also expected that the Advanced Trainee participates in the clinical meetings and teaching and be subject to training and performance reviews.
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding their care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

The position of Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) offers a unique, highly sought-after mix of neonatal experience and paediatric acute, ambulatory, and outpatient experience. The SRMO will provide paediatric patient care in the following settings: ambulatory and outpatients, neonatal special care, and paediatric acute care. The SRMO will provide orientation, support and training of medical students. They will facilitate departmental meetings such as the Neonatal, Perinatal, and Paediatric Morbidity and Mortality meetings. The successful applicant would be expected to work in the Paediatric Acute Review Clinic (PARC) at Gosford Hospital, Special Care Nursery at Gosford Hospital, Wyong Paediatric Unit (WPU) at Wyong Hospital, and Emergency Department at Wyong Hospital.
The Unaccredited Trainee is a clinical position on the Paediatric Trainee Roster, working as one of Paediatric Trainees (Registrars) each term. The position will contribute to continuity of care, orientation and training of new JMOs (RMOs and SRMOs), and will help with medical student and JMO teaching. The successful applicant would be expected to work in the Paediatric Inpatient Unit, Special Care Nursery, and Emergency Department at Gosford Hospital and in the Emergency department, acute clinic and outpatient clinics at Wyong Hospital.
Opportunities:
• As a member of our team, you'll have the chance to gain hands-on experience at one of the busiest paediatric units outside of the tertiary paediatric hospitals in NSW. Our facilities boast 38 inpatient beds and support over 26,000 paediatric presentations annually at Wyong and Gosford Emergency Departments. We're also proud to have pioneered innovative models of care, including the Paediatric Acute Review Clinic (PARC), Paediatric Short Stay, as well as the Wyong Paediatric Unit (WPU).
• But that's not all – our Level 4 SCN provides CPAP for infants with respiratory distress >32 weeks’ gestation and supports over 2,800 deliveries a year. With a busy multidisciplinary child development team on hand, you'll have access to all aspects of community paediatrics, including medical clinics in community centres, developmental assessments, immunisation, disability, and health promotion.
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services.
In conjunction with the University of Newcastle, CCLHD has recently opened the Central Coast Clinical School and Research Institute on the Gosford Hospital campus, providing additional opportunities in training and research.

What you'll be doing
The Provisional Fellow position provides advanced trainees an opportunity to further their training, developing skills important for a consultant role in the spheres of clinical care, education, and training as well as research with support from the team consultants and other health care professionals. The provisional fellow role is a leadership role, both within the department for other junior medical staff and medical students as well as members of the multidisciplinary team, but also across the broader hospital community.
This position is a part time role that focuses on advocacy, education and mentoring of medical students enrolled into the Joint Medical Program University of Newcastle and University of New England. In addition, the Provisional Fellow is expected to enhance their clinical skills and provide expertise in the management of children and adolescents by participating in clinical duties primarily within the Department of Paediatrics.

You will be supporting 4FTE Paediatric Consultants with another, 2FTE Advanced Trainee, 2FTE Unaccredited Trainee, and 2FTE Junior Medical Officers.

About the role
The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of general surgical and urology patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The Riverina Acute & Critical Care SRMO Program is an innovative, structured PGY3 training pathway designed to support the transition to Senior Resident Medical Officer and progression toward specialty training.
Delivered jointly by Wagga Wagga Base Hospital (WWBH) and Calvary Riverina Hospital, the program provides a coordinated 12‑month rotational experience across a broad range of acute care settings within both the public and private healthcare sectors.
This position is aligned to the Acute Care & General Medicine Stream, offering rotations in:

- Anaesthetics
- Paediatrics
- Calvary-based registrar-level rotations in:
- Respiratory & Intensive Care
- General Medicine/Cardiology

Rotations are allocated across the clinical year according to trainee interests and learning objectives, balanced with service requirements and rotation availability.
Calvary rotations provide unaccredited medical registrar-level clinical exposure under supervision, offering trainees the opportunity to develop senior clinical decision-making skills while remaining employed at the PGY3/SRMO level.
The program provides broad exposure to the assessment and management of acutely unwell and deteriorating patients across emergency, inpatient, chronic disease and end-of-life care settings, with experience spanning both public and private healthcare environments.
What you'll be doing
You will provide safe, patient-centred medical care under appropriate supervision within a high-acuity clinical environment across both WWBH and Calvary Riverina Hospital.
Through participation in a structured 12-month rotational program, you will:
- Develop core competencies in acute and critical care, including resuscitation, ventilation, vascular access, and recognition and escalation of clinical deterioration
- Build confidence in managing high-acuity presentations, including after-hours care and multidisciplinary decision-making
- Contribute to coordinated patient care through effective collaboration with medical, nursing and allied health teams
- Gain exposure to registrar-level responsibilities during Calvary rotations within a supported SRMO framework
- Develop clinical maturity, adaptability and systems-based understanding across public and private healthcare settings
- Engage in teaching, research and scholarly activity supported by local university partnerships
By completion of the program, you will have developed a strong clinical foundation to support progression into specialty training pathways, including acute medicine, emergency medicine, anaesthesia and rural generalist practice.
Where you'll be working
The Riverina Acute & Critical Care Program is delivered across Wagga Wagga Base Hospital (WWBH) and Calvary Riverina Hospital, providing exposure to both public and private healthcare environments within a large regional referral network.
The Wagga Wagga Health Service has undergone a $431 million redevelopment, completed in 2021, and is one of the largest regional health campuses in New South Wales. The campus includes:
- A 325-bed referral hospital (WWBH) supporting over 40,000 emergency presentations, 1,100 births and approximately 11,000 operations each year
- A 24-hour Emergency Department with access to statewide specialist support via the Critical Care Advisory Service
- A purpose-built Health Services Hub offering integrated services including aged care, rehabilitation, mental health, outpatient and community health services, along with modern education and simulation facilities
- Co-located services including renal dialysis, oral health, allied health and expanded outpatient care
Wagga Wagga Health Service provides comprehensive services across critical care, medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics, rehabilitation, mental health and community health, supported by a broad range of specialist and allied health teams.
As part of the program, trainees will also rotate to Calvary Riverina Hospital, providing experience in a private healthcare setting and exposure to general medicine, respiratory/ICU and palliative care/oncology services. These rotations offer the opportunity to work in a complementary clinical environment, contributing to continuity of care across the region and providing insight into different models of healthcare delivery.

What you'll be doing
The Intensive Care Advanced Trainee will work under the supervision of Specialist Intensive Care Physicians, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat patients with severe medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric illness. This may include the management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside the intensive care unit as well as the intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients. The Advanced Trainee will participate in a rotating roster of days, evenings, nights and weekends, performing on call duties and acting as a junior specialist with the support of the Specialist oncall. The position is accredited for ICU training by the CICM and evidence of progression towards fellowship is an essential criteria of the role.
This position may also be suitable as a Transitional Fellow, depending on level of training and agreement with the College Intensive Care Medicine.

This position is suitable for medical officers who are registered with the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) or for those with a commensurate level of experience in critical care medicine (Emergency, Anaesthesia and ICU) seeking to obtain further experience & training in an Intensive Care setting.
As an ICU trainee you will be responsible for the provision of critical care services to the Intensive Care Unit and to the greater hospital, under the guidance of the ICU Advanced Trainee and Consultants. You will begin to develop the high level and broad skills necessary to become a high quality practitioner in intensive care medicine.

Concord ICU has a research collaborative led by a clinician - researcher with a published track record of published clinical research. Concord Intensive Care unit has C12 CICM accreditation for training in Intensive care medicine. We ensure that you will have proper support and supervision by consultants; teaching- at the bedside, in tutorials and examination preparation (including hot case and viva practice), involvement in research and quality assurance activities and the practice of evidence based medicine.
The Department of Intensive Care Medicine
The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Concord Repatriation General Hospital is a level 6 ICU, a tertiary referral centre within the Sydney Local Health District. The ICU is a 16 bed centre admitting approximately 1000 patients per year & employing 6.5 full time Intensivists.
Concord Hospital and the Intensive Care Unit provides nationally recognised subspecialty care through the Statewide Burns Injury Service as a quaternary referral centre, and offers opportunity to gain exposure to state of the art management of the critically ill burns patient in a centre of excellence.
The ICU at Concord hospital provides critical care services throughout the broader hospital, including complex medical & surgical sub-specialities, such as upper GI surgery, neurosurgery, interventional cardiology, vascular surgery and limited thoracic surgery. With a longstanding tradition of excellence in physician training, Concord ICU also offers the opportunity to develop skills in the management of the complex, multi-morbidity medical ICU patient, within a unit led by specialists with dual specialty training & experience.

An exciting opportunity is available at Lismore Base Hospital for a Trainee in Intensive Care Medicine for the 2027 clinical year. The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in our hospital in the beautiful Northern NSW LHD / Richmond Network, working under the guidance of highly experienced senior clinicians.
The Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) Intensive Care Department is a modern unit located in the North Tower of the redeveloped hospital we currently operate with nine-beds but have capacity to open to thirteen if required. Our ICU provides a variety of services including:
- Respiratory support including Ventilatory and non-ventilatory support
- Coronary care and cardiac monitoring
- Renal support
- Trauma, and
- General Intensive Care services.
Where you'll be working
Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
The hospital is an acute regional referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (40,000 presentations annually), ICU and Coronary Care Unit, as well as Surgery (general, orthopaedic and speciality surgery), Paediatrics, Mental Health, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
LBH ED also supports Richmond Network hospitals including Ballina District Hospital (18,000 presentations per annum) and Casino Memorial District Hospital (14,000 presentations per annum), and Multipurpose Centres located at Kyogle, Nimbin, Urbenville and Bonalbo.
LBH is an affiliated teaching hospital for medical students from the University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney and Bond University. The hospital has a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior Medical Officers.

What you'll be doing
Critically ill patients include patients with life-threatening single and multiple organ system failure, those at risk of clinical deterioration as well as those requiring resuscitation and/or management in an intensive care unit. Trainees in unaccredited positions in the Intensive Care Department work under supervision, assisting to manage, diagnose and treat the disturbances associated with severe medical, surgical, obstetric and paediatric illness and the conditions that cause them. This may include management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside the intensive care unit as well as the intra-hospital transport of critically ill patients.
This position is appropriate for foundational ICU training, or for those rotating from other specialties e.g. emergency medicine, anaesthetics.

Where you'll be working
Wagga Wagga Base Hospital (WWBH) is one of the busiest rural hospitals in NSW and has
recently been transformed by a $431million redevelopment. It was delivered in three stages and completed in 2021. The health campus includes:
- a referral hospital called Wagga Wagga Base Hospital. Opened in 2017, it supports over 40,000 emergency presentations, 1,100 births and approximately 11,000 operations each year.
- a 24-hour Emergency Department equipped with telehealth cameras to connect the team in Wagga Wagga with other specialists or GPs across the state through the Critical Care Advisory Service, ensuring you get the care you need.
- a purpose-built Health Services Hub which opened in 2021. The new facility, linked to the Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, offers a range of important services from a single site. The multi-storey building accommodates acute aged care inpatient beds, rehabilitation inpatient beds, an older person's mental inpatient unit, Hospital in the Home, expanded renal dialysis unit, expanded oral (dental) service, 60 clinic rooms and treatment spaces for allied health, outpatient, and community health services. There is also a Staff Hub and 30 staff meeting rooms of varying sizes with an electronic booking system and the latest presentation technology; a new lecture theatre and two nearby conference rooms, new clinical education and training spaces, including a simulation room and skills area and facilities for virtual training; a library, a dedicated Aboriginal meeting room and cultural courtyard; cafe; new multi-faith space; and facilities for corporate volunteers. There is also secure parking for fleet vehicles under the Health Services Hub.
- a specialised Mental Health Unit, which opened in 2013, to provide a large modern and comfortable facility. Community mental health services are co-located on the campus in the new Health Services Hub.
Wagga Wagga Health Service provides services including critical care, medical, surgical, paediatric, obstetric, and rehabilitation care. We also provide mental health and community health services. We work with a team of specialists which include cardiovascular, gastroenterology, renal medicine, obstetrics, orthopaedics, psychiatry, and paediatrics. There is also the provision of a full range of allied health and support services such as oral health, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, sexual health and violence prevention and response services.

Wagga Wagga is the largest regional city in NSW with an urban population of around 67,000 residents, nestled on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River.

This position is appropriate for medical officers (at the commencement of the position PGY 4 and above) who are interested in training in intensive care medicine. The position is suitable for advanced trainees of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM). The clinical role allocated to the advanced trainee may vary depending on the experience and seniority of the advanced trainee and operational requirements of the ICU.
The purpose of the position is to provide effective clinical management and excellent care to critically ill patients under the direct or indirect supervision of an Intensive Care Specialist. Trainees will be expected to develop expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment, and to participate in the core training program of the College of Intensive Care Medicine.
Under the supervision of intensive care consultants, advanced trainees may lead a team of junior medical officers inside ICU and on outreach service. During night shifts advanced trainees may be the most senior ICU medical staff on-site.
Wagga Wagga ICU is a Level 2 Intensive Care unit that serves a large catchment area within Murrumbidgee local health district (MLHD). The unit treats over 700 patients each year with > 23% ventilated patients and has 12 physical beds. The unit offers exposure to a broad range of high acuity intensive care patients, supported by other specialties including cardiology with active 24 hours Cath lab, Renal with its own dialysis unit, Respiratory, Endocrine, Neurology, Haematology and Oncology, Interventional radiology, Upper GI, Vascular, Otho and Colorectal surgery. The department places an emphasis on innovation, diversity and a culture of inclusivity.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role
- Completion of three (3) years post graduate experience at commencement of position, with a minimum of one year work experience in an ICU. Completion of CICM primary exam or equivalent.
- Clinical experience, cognitive skills, and basic technical skills appropriate for managing critically ill patients independently within a supervised complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills in the clinical setting.
