We are seeking a high-quality, dedicated and enthusiastic Advanced Trainee to join the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Paediatric Department and Youth Drug Health Service. This innovative 12-month position combines six months of accredited Advanced Training in General Paediatrics and six months in Adolescent Addiction Medicine, providing a unique opportunity to develop expertise across both acute paediatric care and adolescent health. The position is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) for six months of General Paediatrics Advanced Training and six months of Community and Child Health/non-core Paediatric Advanced Training.
The primary function of this position is to provide high-quality, evidence-based clinical care under supervision to children and adolescents requiring inpatient, ambulatory and community-based medical services. During the General Paediatrics term, the trainee will gain broad exposure to acute and chronic paediatric conditions through inpatient, outpatient and virtual models of care. During the Adolescent Addiction Medicine term, the trainee will develop clinical, research and multidisciplinary expertise in the assessment and management of young people presenting with substance use disorders and associated medical, developmental and psychosocial complexities, including withdrawal management and relapse prevention.
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is the principal teaching hospital of the University of Sydney and one of Australia's leading tertiary hospitals. The Department of Paediatrics provides a comprehensive range of services, including a busy inpatient ward, Hospital in the Home program, acute review clinics, general paediatric outpatient services, medical support to the Parent Baby Unit and RPAVirtual, Australia's first virtual hospital. The Youth Drug Health Service delivers specialist multidisciplinary care for adolescents with substance use and related health concerns, providing trainees with valuable experience in integrated models of adolescent healthcare.

Trainees participate in a comprehensive education program, have access to a range of subspecialty learning opportunities and contribute to the supervision and education of University of Sydney medical students.

- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
At least three post graduate years’ experience with at least 12 months paediatric experience.
- Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem-solving skills in a complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated interest in quality improvement, risk management and patient safety.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience and willingness to teach junior medical staff and students.
- Demonstrated interest in addiction medicine, including clinical experience, research or quality activities.

Intensive care service in Westmead hospital includes 36 general, and 10 post cardiothoracic surgical ICU beds. General ICU bed numbers have expanded by 50% in early 2020. Cardiothoracic ICU has also recently moved into a newly built ICU pod. Common ICU admissions include complex medical cases such as sepsis, severe respiratory or cardiac failure, complicated bone marrow transplant, and surgical cases including trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, upper GI, hepatobiliary, and colorectal procedures.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - JMO - Advanced Trainee - Medical Oncology - Research
This role is principally involved in clinical research projects including clinical trials and translational research in all cancers. The research unit undertakes phase 1,2,3 trials in all cancer types with a recent emphasis on novel immunotherapy agents. Also undertake a number of in-house studies.
The role includes the clinical care of patients enrolled on clinical trials, including attending outpatient clinics and treatment clinics
There are opportunities to gain more in depth exposure to specific tumour groups e.g melanoma, lung, GU, GI, Gynae as per the needs of the successful candidates.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- FRACP Part 1 Completed 2 core years of advanced training in Medical Oncology
- Previous experience in Medical oncology & Basic knowledge of the process of undertaking clinical trials in cancer.
- Excellent organisational, attention to detail and communication skills (both written and verbal) including the ability to exercise a high level of initiative, tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive, confidential matters
- Demonstrated experience in clinical research, as evidenced by contribution in conception and study design, data collection and assembly, manuscript writing, drafting reports & other documents
- Experience in co-ordinating the day to day activities of patients and motivating clinical trial staff to achieve optimal results.
- Ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with a wide range of people, both internal and external to the University and with professional bodies & experience planning and managing a complex range of work activity for a broad range.

HNELHD facilitates a WBA program and was the first LHD to deliver the WBA and now has more than 15 years’ experience. The HNELHD WBA runs over 6 months is one of the largest in Australia and is based in Newcastle with a regional hub in Tamworth.
Where you'll be working
With 348 treatment spaces, we are the major Rural Referral Hospital to the North West of NSW. We conduct over 9000 surgical procedures per annum over 5 theatre spaces; with the new facility boasting an additional 3 theatre rooms which have been built for future growth.
Uniquely you will find this position will offer you more hands-on supervised theatre time than your metropolitan colleagues. You will be supporting five General Surgeons, 3FTE SET Trainees and 4FTE Junior Medical Officers.
You will be required to equally participate in the General Surgery after-hours/on-call roster, including 1:4 weekends.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of general surgical and urology patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The unaccredited trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.
Decision-making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the unaccredited trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding a patient’s care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

- Experience and qualifications commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.

Northern Beaches Hospital
Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The Northern Beaches Hospital provides a high standard of education and training, with dedicated supervisors, teachers and a JMO Unit that supports all activities related to rostering, training, education and welfare of junior doctors.

What you'll be doing
The Orthopaedic Unaccredited Trainee is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Orthopaedic inpatients, providing an on-call service for SERH plus 3 surrounding hospitals within the health district. There is a good mix of elective and emergency operating with approximately 1200 operations performed annually. The unaccredited trainee will be responsible for the supervision the resident medical officer as well as rotating medical students from the ANU Medical School.
The Orthopaedic Department is staffed by 3 unaccredited trainee registrars and 1 AOA accredited trainee registrar with a regular 1 in 4 on-call rosters with occasional 1 in 3 on-calls during periods of leave. The well-supported unit allows unaccredited trainees to gain a well-rounded experience in Orthopaedics. The job allows registrars to rotate daily through being on-call, managing acute orthopaedic emergencies, elective and emergency operating lists and outpatient clinics. There are a wide range of educational activities on offer including regular journal clubs, weekly X-ray meetings, teaching, quarterly Morbidity and Mortality meetings and the opportunity to take on research projects. This position would suit both an experienced registrar looking to hone their operative skills with a view to apply for the AOA Training Program or a junior registrar looking for a well-balanced introduction into Orthopaedic Surgery.
Selection Criteria
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category

· Advanced trainees are expected to be relatively independent in assessing patients, formulating a management plan, managing airways, inserting central venous and arterial lines, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation under the supervision of a more senior member of intensive care team.
· Advanced trainees participate in the Trauma calls, attend emergencies on the wards as a member of hospital based clinical emergency response system (CERS), and review patients referred to ICU from wards, ED, and recovery unit. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are crucial to maximise performance while on these duties.
· Advanced trainees are expected to lead and contribute to the supervision of more junior medical staff and participate in teaching activities.

Westmead ICU is an accredited C24 unit by the Australian College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM). There are a range of regular training activities in the unit, including weekly didactic lectures, tutorials, case conferences, journal club, trainee education days, simulation sessions. Specific teaching and preparation activities for primary and secondary CICM exams are part of our educational program.Trainees will be routine rostered through post cardiac surgical pod of ICU. Where you'll be working
Westmead Hospital is a key facility of one of Australia’s largest major health and medical research precincts and is the principal referral hospital for Western Sydney Local Health District providing district level health services to Parramatta, Holroyd and The Hills Shire LGAs including tertiary and quaternary services to greater Western Sydney, greater metropolitan Sydney, rural NSW and other states. The Westmead Health Precinct currently under development is envisaged to be the largest hospital building project undertaken in Western Sydney and will transform the iconic but ageing Westmead Hospital into an innovative, contemporary, and integrated centre that will continue to deliver high quality healthcare and expand the education, health, and research capability of the area.
Westmead Hospital is a leading centre of research, training and specialisation in all fields of Medicine and Dentistry, providing services in Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Kidney and Pancreas transplantation, Cancer Care, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neonatal Intensive Care, Trauma, Bone Marrow Transplantation, Critical Care, Aged Care and Rehabilitation, Adult Acute Psychiatry (networked with the co-located Cumberland Hospital) as well as other specialised medical and surgical services.
Intensive care unit in Westmead hospital comprises of 46 beds including 10 beds for post cardiac surgical patients. Common ICU admissions include complex medical cases such as sepsis, severe respiratory or cardiac failure, complicated bone marrow and kidney transplant, and surgical cases including trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, upper GI, hepatobiliary, and colorectal procedures.
What you'll be doing
WSLHD - Provisional Fellow - Intensive Care
·Provisional fellows will be allocated clinical shifts on a roster including day and night shifts.
·As a member of ICU medical team to participate in the management of critically ill patients in the ICU, or on outreach service.
·Daily duties include patient assessment, documentation in patient records, preparation of discharge summaries, ordering, and reviewing investigations, performing ICU procedures such as line insertion.
·Provisional fellows are expected to independently and under mostly indirect supervision of the consultant staff, be capable of assessing critically ill patients, formulating a management plan, managing airways, inserting and supervising central venous and arterial lines, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
·Provisional fellows participate and supervise more junior staff in the Trauma calls, clinical emergency response system (CERS) in the hospital wards, and review patients referred to ICU from wards, ED, and recovery unit.
·Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills are required to lead a team of more junior ICU medical officers, effectively and efficiently communicate and negotiate management plans with other hospital staff, specialty teams, and also patients and their relatives.
Under the supervision of intensive care consultants, provisional fellows, will lead a team of junior medical officers inside ICU and on outreach service. Provisional fellows will be the senior on-site ICU doctors at night shifts.
POSITION SUMMARY AND LOCAL BACKGROUND
Westmead Hospital is the principal referral hospital for western Sydney, renowned for its comprehensive, highly specialised and complex services provided to its community, statewide and nationally.
Patients come to Westmead Hospital for treatment of major trauma, bone marrow transplant, renal transplant, pancreas (islet) cell transplant, neurosurgery, interventional neuroradiology, oral healthcare, radiation oncology, cardiology interventional services, cardiothoracic surgery, advanced gastroenterology, deep brain stimulation, neonatal intensive care, and services for adult eating disorders, complex epilepsy, complex dermatology, adult cystic fibrosis, and Huntington disease.
Intensive care unit in Westmead hospital comprises of 49 beds, including 12 beds for post cardiac surgical patients. Common ICU admissions include complex medical cases such as sepsis, severe respiratory or cardiac failure, complicated bone marrow and kidney transplant, and surgical cases including trauma, neurosurgery, vascular, cardiothoracic, ENT, plastic surgery, urology, upper GI, hepatobiliary, and colorectal procedures.
All required external rotations for the purpose of training with the college of intensive care medicine (CICM) are available for this position. These include anaesthetics, medicine, paediatric ICU, rural ICU. Allocation of rotations will be made following each annual recruitment.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Advanced trainee of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) who have passed CICM fellowship examination.
- Clinical experience, cognitive skills, and basic technical skills appropriate for managing critically ill patients independently within a supervised complex clinical environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills required to manage a team of intensive care junior medical staff with indirect consultant supervision.
- Demonstrated time management and problem-solving skills in the clinical setting.
- Demonstrated verbal, written and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences.
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self-education, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

Central Coast Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department:
The Career Medical Officer position involves general experience in labour ward management and gynaecology operating. Provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas in the public health organisation. The department also offers training opportunities for CMO grade doctors including access to consultants on the floor training and attendance at regular morbidly and mortality meetings. CCLHD have an active training program that is available for all Medical Officers.
Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and trauma centre for the Central Coast, with over 500 inpatient beds and 24/7 access to the emergency department and operating theatres. A recent $368 million dollar redevelopment delivered a new emergency department, ICU, nuclear medicine facility, special care nursery and expanded medical imaging services.
Wyong Hospital is an acute major metropolitan hospital with over 300 beds providing inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to residents in the northern region of the Central Coast. A recent $200 million expansion delivered a new emergency department, ICU, paediatric unit, inpatient wards, theatres and expanded medical imaging services. Another development is the Wyong Women’s Centre, due for completion at the end of 2024. This will provide more accommodation for antenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinics. What you'll be doing

KEY OPPORTUNITIES:
• The accredited maternal fetal medicine fellow position is accredited for training in CMFM, RANZCOG.
• The position is most suited for a trainee accepted into the RANZCOG CMFM fellow training program. A trainee not accredited with the RANZCOG CMFM trainee program may be considered for this position and will be provided with the opportunity to gain the experience required to apply for CMFM training.
• Westmead MFM service is the largest tertiary referral center in the state of NSW and has opportunities for fetal procedures as well as management and follow through of patients with complex fetal anomalies referred for ongoing care that will be delivered at Westmead Hospital and subsequently transferred to Children’s Hospital.
• The hospital also provides care to many complex maternal medical conditions in pregnancy through dedicated antenatal clinics.
• There is close liaison with maternal medicine services providing opportunity to learn from renal, hematology, cardiology and various other services who work as part of an MDT Team.
• The role provides opportunity to discuss in depth outcomes on fetal anomalies in monthly surgical meetings with pediatric surgeons.
• Fortnightly genetics sessions to discuss management and care of genetic conditions, fetal syndromes with our expert geneticists.
• Access to training and performing over 150 fetal diagnostic procedures amniocentesis, chorionic villous sampling, fetal transfusion, amnioreduction, fetal cavity aspiration and shunt placement.
• Access to statewide perinatal pathology unit at Westmead Children’s Hospital.
• There is ongoing opportunity of new research on various MFM topics with support of onsite statistician and research staff dedicated to MFM services.
Orientation
Hospital Orientation occurs at the beginning of each term for all doctors new to the individual hospital.
The department of O&G provides an orientation manual to all medical staff working in the department.
For Hospital Orientation most hospital programs include similar features. Included are examples of topics covered in orientation at each hospital. Hospital Orientation covers the following: Hospital Tour, RSU services (pay, timesheets etc), Medico legal issues, Occupational Health and Safety, Pharmacy, Deteriorating patient and medical emergency calling system, Death Certificates and Cremation Certificates, Computer access, Teaching schedule, Infection control, Patient Flow.

What you'll be doing
To provide a high standard of clinical care to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in the practise of General and Acute Care Medicine, in the context of fulfilling the requirement of the RACP for Advanced Training in General and Acute Care Medicine.
The Division of Medicine provides services primarily across the three main hospitals, the Wollongong, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven Hospitals. About the role
The General Medicine Department at Manning Hospital provides generalist care to patients admitted under the General Medicine teams which are led by Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) and Staff Specialists (SS) physicians. The physicians are also subspecialised in areas including respiratory medicine, renal, gastroenterology, cardiac, geriatrics medicine and Infection Diseases. The department is accredited with the Basic Physician Training (BPT) program.
This SRMO position aims to provide PGY2 and above doctors who are interested in joining Basic Physician Training an opportunity to further develop their skills at a subspecialist level whilst rotating amongst General Medicine teams with various sub-specialities; educational roles; afterhours hospital wards coverage; and also rotating in roles whilst conducting assessments of potential General Medicine patients in the Emergency Department.
The rotation is designed for a full 12 months with guaranteed exposure to all the above areas including a considerable amount of time (to the maximum of 6 months) being the SRMO of one of the General Medicine teams. To provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in General Medicine practice, in a complex clinical environment in inpatients and outpatient areas at Manning Hospital. The Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) forms part of the General Medicine team within medical workforce and is responsible for providing, under the supervision of the Physician, General Medicine services, to patients admitted or in the process of being admitted under these teams.
This role will include participation in afterhours hospital coverage (Evening, Night and Weekend shifts) and may include rotations to the Wingham Community Hospital - Rehabilitation.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Basic Physician Trainee (BPT) is to provide effective medical services to patients under supervision, while developing expertise in medical practice in a complex clinical environment in inpatient and outpatient areas in the public health organisations within the Network.
Basic Physician Training roles consist of rotations through medical departments, working under an appropriate level of supervision by consultants. Rotations have different levels of responsibility and team structures. BPTs will gain increasing clinical autonomy and accountability as team leaders throughout the course of the three-year training program, building on their skills and attributes with the goal of entering an Advanced Training program.

Both ED and ICU receive patients from rural sites retrieved by the local Westpac Helicopter Retrieval Service which has a base in Tamworth. Critical Care Unaccredited Trainees/ SRMOs can complete ACEM’s Emergency Medicine Certificate over the year. ED is accredited with RACGP and ACRRM for advanced skills in Emergency Medicine.

What you'll be doing

The position is suitable for trainees of other specialties seeking critical care experience including RACGP and ACRRM trainees and supports the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) and Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through ACEM. It is also suitable for those who are not enrolled in a training program with regular protected education and professional development support provided to all SRMOs.
*Critical Care rotations will be offered to the top 4 successful applicants. All other successful applicants will be offered 12months of Emergency Medicine. What you'll be doing:
The primary purpose of the Unaccredited Trainee in the Emergency Department is to provide clinical care, under appropriate supervision, to patients requiring emergency medical services in a complex clinical environment. This position will provide experience in a critical care environment and have responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice commensurate with the level of experience of the incumbent.
Rotations to anaesthetics and ICU are available with all rotations accredited by the relevant specialist College. Emergency Medicine Training Network:
The Central Coast is part of the Emergency Medicine Network 2 Training Program for Advanced Trainees. Gosford & Wyong Emergency Departments are educationally networked for training with ACEM and offer a comprehensive education programme contributing to Primary exam preparation & Fellowship preparation. All trainees (including Unaccredited) have access to paid rostered non-clinical time. CCLHD Emergency Trainees have achieved excellent results in both Primary and Fellowship exams, with a very high pass rate and a number of medal winners for top mark. Both Gosford and Wyong Emergency Departments are ACEM accredited for 36 months training time (including stage 4).

With 348 treatment spaces, we are the major Rural Referral Hospital to the North West of NSW. We conduct over 9000 surgical procedures per annum over 5 theatre spaces; with the new facility boasting an additional 3 theatre rooms which have been built for future growth.

What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of orthopaedic patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The unaccredited trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.
Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the unaccredited trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding a patient’s care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.
Qualifications - External

- Drivers licence in order to provide service between hospitals and out of hours.

The Trainee will effectively be required to assess trauma patients appropriately in the Emergency Department and then carry out basic trauma care in the operating theatres under consultant supervision. The Trainee will be an important part of a unit, also charged with the supervision of interns and junior medical officers. Preparation of clinical material for weekly department meetings will be necessary, as well as participation in quarterly audit meetings including the collection and presentation of data. Teaching and training of junior staff as well as nursing and allied health may be required during the year.
What you'll be doing
- Assessing trauma patients appropriately in the Emergency Department and then carry out basic trauma care in the operating theatres under supervision.
- Assisting with orthopaedic elective work performed at the hospital.
- Reviewing and managing patients in outpatient clinics including preadmission clinic for elective surgery, orthopaedic fracture and wound review clinics, virtual and telehealth clinics; and a range of elective clinics including the high risk foot clinic.
- Initial assessment of the patient: this consists of ensuring a complete and documented comprehensive patient history, physical examination and the formulating of a management plan and ordering appropriate investigations.
- Participating in overtime rosters and an after hour oncall roster including weekends.

- Nepean Hospital is a teaching hospital and a regional trauma centre serving a local population of over 300,000.
- The unit provides service to a busy regional trauma centre supporting both elective and trauma surgery under the supervision of the Orthopaedic Consultants. Elective work performed at the hospital includes major joint replacement, spine surgery and arthroscopy.
